I would like to join one in Brighton, but I live in Rottingdean (if you know where that is), and the one at the local school is terrible, the health club in the marina is probably ludicrously expensive, and the ones in town would require me to buy a bus fare every day, as well as ~2hours travel, which would be too expensive in time and money. A bit of a shame really, but I have some weights and a bench in my garage. If I move nearer to the centre of Brighton when I leave uni I'll definitely be joining one though. Are you from somewhere near Brighton?

Living in Brighton atm, going to Sussex uni! The gyms in Brighton are all generally quite bad and overpriced so i use the uni one, which is bad but good enough for SS.

Lafitness which is near Brighton station have a 5 day free pass promotion. I have used 2 this month and been there about 5 times! Free weights area is meh, with no squat rack, but has most other stuff.

So I just got back from my local LA Fitness during peak hours and it was my leg day. There are 4 squat racks in the gym and 3 of them were occupied by groups of 2-3 guys doing curls and they were almost all wearing weight belts to curl insane amounts of weight, im talkin about 4 10lb plates+ the bar omg they must have been on cycles. So Im doing my warm up set of squats and 2 kids in Tapout shirts come up to me and ask me how many more sets I have and I tell them im just warming up it will be like 10 minutes before im done but they can work in with me if they are doing squats. They say they are doing barbell curls and ask me to go use the smith machine to squat or one of those wussy assisted squat things instead lol. I figure they must have been really tough since they were wearing tapout shirts but I was so pumped up on white flood that I told them to buzz off and go curl somewhere else.

Awesome if true. Guys like that need to be shot into space like Soyuz puppies.

Jesus Christ if someone asked me that I'd tell them off. I'm usually easy going at the gym and will forgive minor transgressions but that's ridiculous.

Smith machines are awesome for curls imo.

lol pumped up on white flood

man recently people just not racking their weights and leaving barbells and dumbbells all over the gym floor has really been pissing me off.

one douhcey old guy goes on the hanging leg raises station and realizes that there's a dumbbell he keeps hitting with his leg right under him. so rather than get up and move it or put it back on the rack, he decides to just kick it and let it roll out into the middle of the gym floor. then when he is done he just walks past it. I mean FFS

people have no ****ing clue how to walk in a gym

if another old man walks right behind me as I'm doing power cleans I'm going to go off on him. How hard is it to walk around people in a 1500sq. ft area with 2-3 other lifters?

When I was iceskating I would do my leg work at the gym (at a college) I had to do it though. Since I stopped skating competitively, I hate doing leg work at the gym, I do it at home with free wights/whatever and then if it's bad outside I head to the gym for cardio. I typically only go to the gym for cardio in that way. Most women are pretty self conscious in the land of the weight lifters. I've had a few guys try and hit on me or whatever while I was trying to lift some and it just pisses me off. I know what I'm doing... I've been training with different exercising styles since I was 9 and getting into skating from lifting to yoga to endurance, you name it.
It's very annoying being in a gym and having a guy hit on you/try and talk to you when you're just trying to get the **** done and get out.

I nearly always lift at my college gym, which is chock-full of bros doing chest/bis, but relatively devoid of older people. I'm home for winter break now, so I joined a local gym for a month. My first workout there, an old guy that had to have been at least 70 was wearing a bright purple singlet that was about 3 sizes too small for him. My reasoning was that in between sessions of lounging naked in the locker room, he wanted to be as naked as possible in the actual gym. ****ing disgusting.

i've managed to avoid "flexing in the lockerroom mirror" guy for about 2 months.

he was there today when i got there. Flexing in the mirror.

i was reminded that his presence was not missed and that i am incapable of not openly laughing at people in public. This will surely be my downfall when someone gets uptight with getting laughed at and caves my head in with a brick.

since I've been focusing mainly on benching this month I've achieved what some might call a tricep muscle. I've noticed seen this has happened that I've been flexing in the mirror a lot more than usual.

I promise not to let this success go to my head.

lol ive actually been asked if I wanted to buy some gear several times in the locker room. I have no interest since im scared of messing with my hormones and am seeing plenty of gains from liftin hard and eatin big.

Today I took an inventory of the gym inhabitants (gotta do something to take away the pain as push press to close grip chinup supersets ****ing kill me).

The first occupants I noticed were the hot trainer (I'm yet to see her working out but nom nom nom) and her middle aged woman client. They were chatting away when client was on on the bike. The client was talking freely and not at all inconvenienced by the exercise. They then went on to unweighted Bosu ball quarter squats, then partial ROM crunches, leg extension with 1 plate, then the elliptical (for some reason the client was "running" like a duck, feet splayed way out.

The other guy was late teens, black wife beater and baggy shiny track pants. He maybe weighed 130 lbs if he was lucky (at about 5 foot 10) . I shall repeat his exercise program for posterity and all of you who want huyge gunz.

Several sets of bicep curls holding a 15kg plate supersetted with BB bicep curls (I think, that or it was a weighted limbo contest)

1 set seated row while checking self out in mirror over right shoulder

A drop set of BB bicep curls

A gruelling set of checking himself out in mirror and fixing hair

Bicep cable curlz

Bicep curl machine

Seated alternating bicep curls

Behind the neck seated BB OHP

Standing DB lateral raise.

I couldn't make this **** up - I noted it all down between sets to make sure I got it right. I wanted to grab him by the scruff of the neck and take him to the squat rack, but what skinny ****er with gelled hair is going to take workout advice from a big fat guy in a sweaty t-shirt? Plus I had some DB rows to do.

At least the post work crowd isn't there at the weekends.

I always find it funny that you see those guys more on friday/saturday- the ones who work solely on chest/biceps and nothing else-cause clealry working on those just before you go out = attracting the ladies. me and my PT trainer always joke about this, wondering if you guys do the same.

Spotted a guy benching 365 for an easy double yesterday. He said he was working up to his 1rm and I would not be surprised if he hit 400+. Pretty sure its the biggest bench I have seen in person, I was impressed.
