182 bench isn't too impressive, but gotta give him props for the 155 curl.

I think facing the opposite direction to where you want the thing to go and hurling it backwards over your head would be max distance... or maaaaybe something more like how they do it in discus.
When I throw the Open Stone, it basically is the shot put, just with a rock and on grass. The techniques are the same though.

The overhead shot throw which you described above is used by most throwers as a testing event to gauge power and is one of the exercises in the Quadrathlon test. It's noted that when throwing overhead shot though, there is no fouling so you get to jump back off the toe board.

Fwiw, when I tested the overhead shot, I threw 55'4" and my personal best with a 16lbs stone in competition is 56'2". It's pretty close for most individuals, with obv outliers depending on where you fall on the speed-strength continuum.

it just amazes me how little regard people have for someone in the middle of a max effort set. not just members working out, but people i work with, who will walk right in front of me or behind me while i have a huge cattleball over my head, or ask me something stupid while i am in the middle of a set.

thanks for sharing, but this really belongs as a specific story in a log. also it could use an ISF retaliation.

what if i start a new log but with thremp-like rules that only people as strong or stronger than me can post in it? also, i do go ISF on people in controlled doses pretty regularly.

I am resting between my first and second set of OHP. I go sit on a bench a few feet away. This guy come and heads to my barbell which is loaded and on the floor and looks like he's gonna use it. I say "excuse me" about 3 times before he hears me. I tell him I'm in the middle of sets, he runs off to go do something else. I finish my sets, I let him know I'm done. I had it at an unusual weight - 110lbs. He comes over, starts using the bar, does the exact same thing at the exact same weight, with like 25% ROM. What are the odds he wanted to the the exact same thing at the exact same weight, or did he just want to match me? It was really weird.

Saw a very strange exercise yesterday. Guy is holding a 20 lb. DB in is left hand but holding it over his right shoulder so that his left upper-arm is vertical. He then has his right hand under the weight, and proceeds to lift it by extending his left arm and pushing up with his right arm. He seemed to be using both arms equally, I could not tell if this was some sort of assisted tricep extension or if it was an assisted DB press.

that is cool. i will respect those idiot-like rules if that is what you want. if we got you doing a training blog, which also includes some stories of you flipping on people, i speak for everyone here when i say that would be truly terrific.

I would assume that this is where he works which would make a snap pretty stupid. If not then one was in order.

Apparently the Soviets didn't bother to write anything in the last 40 years about WLing that he is aware of. He borrowed my copy of Everett's book. Apparently he is giving up lifting to train now. I ask him what his PBs are... 155/182 @ 94. hyachahchahcahchahchachahchahcah

So tilty. Oh... He had cancer while younger so he whiffed a couple years of training. die die die

Today I saw a really obviously anorexic girl grinding out the stair stepper. Her calves and thighs were pretty much identical in size. Really made me sick to my stomach. Sad part is, she probably looked at me and got scared of turning into that and ate even less.

It did kind of make me want one of those "I beat anorexia" t-shirts, though.

some *** asked me to spot him on the incline press. he had 165 on and said he was going to do six. he did f one. and he pulled me away from doing low rows, where i need biceps.

and when i was driving to the gym, this ****** in a lexus suv was behind me and i had just come off a turn and was headed towards a stoplight that was less that 50 yards away, and the stop light turns red a couple seconds after coming off the turn, so i dont bother accellerating because there is no reason to hurry up and wait. but this *** guns it so he can pass me and and then get back in the lane so hes first at the stop light. what the **** is the obsession with accellerating up to a stop light and then hitting the brakes when you get there as opposed to coasting towards it, which both saves gas and lets you time the light to get through the intersection faster. jesus ****** christ. anyway, so i time the light while he has his thumb up his ass and cut him off, but not very badly. but then some other *** took forever to turn in front of me at the next stoplight and the lexus *** passed me in the other lane and soured my road trolling. anyway, go **** yourselves everyone with the driving. am i the first one in the world to figure out that accellerating up to a stoplight that is going to be red when you get there is stupid

AND ANOTHER THING AND ITS ALL CAPS TIME. WHY DOES NO ONE EVER STOP 20 FEET FROM THE LINE AT STOPLIGHTS SO THAT YOU CAN TIME IT AND GET A FLYING START. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE EVER DO THIS, YET EVERYONE SEEMS OBESSESSED WITH DRIVING AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. SO THEY WILL GET RIGHT UP TO THE LINE AND GUN IT WHEN ITS GREEN, BUT NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT THAT IF YOU GET 20 FEET OF FLYING START BY TIMING IT YOU WILL BEAT ANYONE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION.

On tuesday when I was doing squat cleans, a highschool kid asked me if they were good for the chesticles. Later, that same kid asked me how much I could curl.

Wednesday night there was someone there I haven't seen before and he seemed to know some things from what I overheard. Heard him say he tries to get >1g protein per lb bodyweight and to do compound movements to his training partner. Then he went on to do what the dude he was there with does. "7 exercises for each muscle. 3 sets each for 15 reps" isolation movements obv

I'm revising my theory on who listens to who in the gym. It's all about the guns.

Three people:
Person A - 14" guns
Person B - 16" guns
Person C - 18" guns

Person A will listen to B and C. C listens to no-one because he's the boss man. B will listen to C and ignore A. If guns are lean, that counts as an extra 1". Guns that are fat are deducted 1". Normal guns get no benefits. However, a man with fat guns can hide this fact by wearing clothes that cover his guns and therefore ignore the 1" penalty. A man with lean guns can gain his 1" bonus by displaying his guns with the help of a vest or wifebeater. If he covers his guns, no bonus is achieved. The pump can also enhance the guns, so if you're about to throw some pearls to swine, best to superset the barball, hammer and incline curls for 3 sets of 12 reps with no rest between sets to get the blood pumping.
