haha thanks a lot for this thread. i've been pretty much doing some of the things mentioned in this thread for a while now. Using gloves, haven't squatted or dead lifted since junior year high school, CURLS amongst other things. Haven't lifted in three months though.

Definitely want to get started on the SS program as soon as I get back to Europe or maybe in already in Mexico after the summer if I can find a decent gym.

Anyways, just wanted to thank you for showing me the way and posting all the funny stories. maybe i'll be able to share some in the future as well.

What's wrong with wearing gloves?

Nothing, as long as they match your purse.

It's already been said a million times but you don't develop grip strength as quickly which is both important in the gym and in many sports/activities.

Also you look like a massive pussy. I normally don't judge people in the gym, if you're there you're better than 90% of the population anyway but people with gloves on look like the biggest ****ing dorks in the world. Everyone who doesn't wear gloves thinks this, everyone.

For Christmas this year my Mom bought me a pair of workout gloves because... I'm not sure why she just knew I've been lifting for a while and they seemed like one of those inexpensive thoughtful gifts Mom's like to give. Anyway, I told her I couldn't wear them, she asked me why. I said 2 reasons, one I can't develop grip strength for rock climbing etc. using them and two, I put them on and looked at her. She started laughing at me. My own mother realized that I looked like a ****ing moron with the gloves on to the point where she laughed at me. Its not like my Mom is a mean person or a dick normally, shes just an average person and even she recognized the stupidity of wearing padded biking gloves while you're lifting metal bars.

Don't wear gloves, get calluses then get chalk.

Gloves actually make your grip worse. There is absolutely no point in them. Except if you don't want callouses because you are a handmodel? I dunno. Maybe if you have a large cut on your hand or something.

This is basically the only legit reason to wear them.

as far as my small gym group goes, we're pretty sure it was him, he typically goes everyday like 2 hours a day around the same time and no one has seen him since friday.

i already told someone that it'll be funny regardless, if it's him- it's hillarious.

if it's not, he's the kind of idiot that we all automatically assumed would be assaulting his groin in the parking lot.

it's the anti- kobayashi maru.

There's a douche bag restaurateur who was banned from my dad's gym for repeatedly ignoring requests to stop shaving his balls in the sauna.

His restaurant is very good and very, very crowded despite the fact he's confrontational to his customers and does stuff like belittle the staff in a crowded house. I wonder if he'll tone it down now that it's public knowledge that he's a deviant.

First question I asked.

It was the sauna.

I would have banned any douche who shaved his balls in my gym no matter where he did it. 'No shaving of your balls' sounds like a legit rule.

i finished training a client and was on the way to run(literally, its about 3 blocks away) to teach a conditioning class at our other location, when one of our female trainers asked me to rack a 100 pound fixed weight barbell for her.

she had just finished training a 200 plus pound decently fit/strong guy who was still in the vicinity. i was slightly incensed by the idea that neither of them could re-rack it(they were the ones who had been using it), so i smiled, said sure, went up to it, bent down and snatched it over my head with my left hand and walked with it overhead to the barbell rack and set it down in the rack and went out the door.

not sure if that was awesome or dbaggy, i just kinda wanted to construe the idea that if i can rip it over my head easily with one hand, you other people can probably deadlift it and put it back on the rack.

Return of the lycra wearing man this week and his ever-present bosu balls of balancing brilliance which he uses on squats and shoulder press. I think his routine that day was 3x12 shoulder pressess on bosu, then a circuit of 5 ab exercises.

My girly 6" wrists start to crumble at around 30kg Is it worth wearing wrist supports for snatches, one handed or two?

Saw something new today of unknown value. Basically was a negative incline bench press. The guy benching would slowly go down in a controlled fashion, then when he reached the bottom his spotter would deadlift the weight back up, where the bencher would do his next rep.

Seems like you would have to use some seriously heavy weight for this to possibly be beneficial. How much was he doing?

?

Somewhat common. And not terrible. Eccentric loading for more hypertrophy etc. Has some merit to it. But not really for people who are trying to get strong.

It was a couple skinny kids ( under 160 lbs) doing light weight, like 90 lbs, but it was probably a lot of weight for them.

Also, I made my first unsolicited helpful comment to a stranger today. Was a kid doing HBBS, where he was basically balancing all his weight on his toes and lifting with his heels off the ground. Obviously he was having as much trouble keeping his balance as lifting the weight. I mentioned to him he should keep his weight on his heels.

The funny thing is he was working in with a friend, and the friend had good (well not really good form, but better than average in my gym) form, but was not helping him at all.

You should have just said "sure" in a really sarcastic tone, then rolled your eyes, then huffed and puffed a lot and unnecessarily crashed the weights around. Then when she asked if you were pissed about her asking, you could have said "No, it's fine" in a really annoyed tone of voice and then gone out the door. That would have been awesome!
