I concur on not needing a ton of rest between DL sets. 3 mins is really all I need. I'll give it 5 for a real deal top set or amrap but mostly out of habit.

I'm a rip/SS fanboi and I think most criticisms are off or simply wrong, but the one thing I largely blame SS culture for is this idea that deadlifts are the most taxing thing of all time. To me they're far behind squats both in terms of inter-set recovery and long term fatigue.

This doesn't mean I think the way they're programmed for SS is wrong. On top of all the squatting, one big set makes sense. But once you scale back squatting, you can DL a lot. You won't die.

peak hour, three incline benches and three flat benches in gym. two clowns using incline bench as a flat (with towels) leaving only the flats empty.. the level of stupidity is frustrating.
unnecessarily blocking equipment has to be the most tilting thing in gyms.

Yesterday two other people in gym using the chinup belt at the same time as me. These are college kids, and possibly competitive athletes. It goes:
*Me 5 reps with 35
*Her 1/2 (in other words "zero") reps with 25
*Him 1/2 reps with 45

For 3 sets! The whole thing takes them like a second with no hanging, negatives, or dynamic catching or anything. They're even jump-starting, ffs! They're literally getting more exercise from putting the belt on. I doubt either could do 5 strict chins, although she is really fit-looking and he's tiny/wiry--but I'm 100% certain they don't know what a strict chinup is.

Is there a constructive way of asking, "What the **** are you doing?" in a situation such as this? I didn't ask only because those were the only words that came to mind.

"You guys dumb or something?"

Do you mean they did multiple half-reps, or each did a single half-rep? Because if the latter, what the actual ****?

Single attempted reps. I do think the guy was feeling a bit of peer pressure to not reduce his weight since she wasn't. Chick was legit hot and maybe a foot taller than him.

They were not working out together.

I originally read this as

girl comes up to me during my set of t bar rows and says "I live in the same building as you. Do I want to have sex with you or be your friend"

I like my way better

My gym is so packed with equipment that if feels like there's nowhere you can go between sets without blocking something. Wouldn't it make sense for gyms to have little areas with stools or chairs where you could go to get out of the way?

Gyms encourage people to get in, do a short 30-45 minute workout, and leave. The fewer people in the gym at any given time, the more money the gym makes. Nobody wants to work out in a crowded gym.

There are a lot of twisted things about gym economics that makes a good, affordable gym damn near impossible to find.

There's a great episode of Planet Money about "gym economics":

So Pokemon go just came out here, and now we have grown ass bro's walking around doing their brotastic workouts while staring at their phone because god forbid they miss catching a virtual cartoon animal.

So this is what it has come to..

Pokemon Go is elite for dieting. Most people don't do enough low impact caloric burn while dieting. Getting someone to walk an additional 5-10k per day instead of watching TV will make a big impact.

Sure anything that gets people outside and moving is fine obv. When they can't keep their eyes off their phone during a set of dumbell presses is where it gets rediculous.

And honestly around here that game is gonna get people killed. The last thing the Thai need is another distraction in traffic.

why is it the game that is the problem and not the phone itself? what if they were just checking facebook instead?

I've never seen anyone check Facebook mid set.

Today I did squats with 310 lbs. 4 different people asked me why I didn't just put "3 plates" on, including the guy I let work in and who was loading weight on one side.

Because I'm not doing 315?

Make sure you move to 312.5 next time. You can't be too careful.

Why didn't you put 315 on?
