Definitely some new faces in the gym today, but still relatively deserted, as lunchtime usually is. I'm pressing in the squat rack (as usual, no one waiting to squat) and I clip on on a 35 on each side with one of the two sets of new plastic collars that are the only ones that work well on the new bars:
Most of the old metal clamps have been squeezed enough after years of use that they don't really fit the new bars snugly, and I didn't want to scratch up the new bars, so I generally use the new collars. Whatever.
So after I get my bar set up, I go to fill up at the water fountain, and return at most a minute later, do my warmup set, and notice that, after I finished my set, one of the plates has moved slightly away from the collar. I inwardly roll my eyes at the fact that the new clips are apparently this ****ty, go over to switch on some 45s, and note that the clip is no longer there. I check the rack to see if I forgot to put it on, but nope, it's gone, as is the clip from the other side. I turn around and note the two new 23 year old inbred Purdue douches bench pressing 135 for reps of three using the clips they had to have just watched me put on (the bench they were on faces the squat rack) and silently cursed the new year. Luckily they burned themselves out after two terrible sets so I had the clips back by the time I was doing my work sets, but jesus. Who does that?
