God getting stuck in ATG position now seems like the scariest thing that can happen ever.

wtf

Your leaned so far forward and in such an awkward position it seems like getting the weight to go back far enough to clear your hips might not be that easy and if you don't get out of the way in time...

It's like insanely easy to dump a high bar squat from atg, I would say as easy as dumping a frontsquat. Low-bar can be a little trickier, but if you just kinda let go and move forward it's not so bad.

Just load up some amount of weight that is really easy for you and practice dumping it a few times. Then it won't be in the back of your head when you're trying to concentrate on a genuinely heavy set.

Good call, wish I thought of it first.

Note how JF has the safety pins set a little low, making it more awkward than dude in 2nd vid.

Wow. Really? Then posting it on youtube? No shame, I'll give him that. I'm sort of puzzled how it even happened.

This guy posted a set of him squatting to failure on bb.com asking for form advice, it was promptly edited to an awesome soundtrack <3 Like jesus, what are these people thinking? Guess being internet famous could be kinda cool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0av7wVa-mXA

I went back to the Anytime fitness today and Trainer #2 was there with some guy who probably haven't been to a gym before since he didn't have any idea on how to place his hand while doing bench press.

First thing they do is bench press in the smith machine, trainer loads up 40kg and the guy starts pressing with the trainer holding the bar with one hand during the whole rep and assisting him on the way up. Of course the guy is leaving a couple of inches from going full ROM and then they put on another 10 kg and repeat the whole thing.

How the hell did that guy get a job as a personal trainer? The rest of the session included random assisted machine exercises.

I only lol'd because the video that youtube suggested next was called "how to use a smith machine."

There are probably 200 certifying companies that require no pre-requisites and give just a weekend course of instruction. Often that's a weekend course longer than the gym owner knows anyway.

Worse: That's what most places actively teach.

That why you always make some sort of joke about bashing someone's head in with a 45lb plate?

At a regular globo gym trainers primary function isn't to train, it's to sign up people for gym memberships and to sell "training" sessions.

I'd think most of them wouldn't want to push their clients too hard, if they do they might quit. Instead they give them easy crap to do and feed them compliments and motivation the whole time to keep them coming back for more sessions.

I think a lot of trainers push their client's too hard actually. I've seen the same trainer at my gym take completely sedentary persons and force them into a extremely difficult GPP workout. There are some exercises of marginal utility (like curls for fatties) but I assumed he's adding them so he doesn't kill them, the clients expect them, or because he doesn't know better.

He wants his clients to wake up the next 4 days and be so sore that they can't move...then tell their friends that it was the best workout of their life...thus increasing referrals from other clueless people.

Sign in the Gold's I go to says something along the lines of "If it hurts the next day, then you did something right."

Do PTs charge pr session or pr week/month etc.? If the latter, they actually have incentive to make the DOMS as severe as possible to free up their time for more clients!

To be fair, I usually hurt the day after lifting. The bicepts especially are pretty burnt.
