PT at my gym working with 2 girls (hot). He has them each on all fours and they're taking turns pushing one leg up into the air while he provides resistance with his hands. All the while he's talking about it providing activation for their glutes. He looks over and sees me laughing and just smiles ... he knows that what he's doing is ridiculous but it looks ****ing amazing.

a couple questions, this first one is kind of idle but out of idle curiosity... i never work with a spotter but don't spotters help on the concentric portion and generally let people bring their own weight down again?

and secondly, why do we not care about the eccentric portion of deadlifts but yet the eccentric portions of presses and bench presses matter? to me the eccentric portion of a deadlift is much more relevant, i imagine it's much like an actual exercise people do the glute ham raise

Probably? Like I said, it's useful for some applications, but not every time you bench press.

Hm? Who doesn't care about the eccentric portion of DLs? Maybe ActionJeff, but it's pretty important. Again, this is something Rip talks about on the SS boards. (Not dropping the DL from the lockout position, specifically.)

The GHR has no hip action. lol

ETA: I don't care about the eccentric portion of DLs. Its dumb.

so i am doing DLs last night, PR with decent form but nothing to brag about. i am nowhere near dropping it, plus as expected my grip is holding pretty good. as soon as i put the weight down, this older dude rushes in, "hey, why don't you try a cross grip? here let me show you." and proceed to show a deadlift with alternate hand positions. "uhhhhhh... ok, thanks, i'll try it."

what is bad about this? are you saying you were already doing it or what? dude was just trying to be helpful

Today some ****ing monster was doing some legit 4 plate front squats. ****ing sick considering he's like the 3rd person I've ever seen do anything resembling squats in my gym

i think grip on the DL is a very-very minor point which really only matters if the bar is literally slipping out. yes, he could have said something way more intrusive, but it was kinda annoying nonetheless.

My college has a crossfit bootcamp pe class you can take. Instead of being reasonable human beings and buying some mother****ing bumpers and platforms instead of a 123890 new smith machines or whatever, they're holding the class off campus. WTF is wrong with these *******s? It's like they're consciously aware that the gym sucks for serious lifters and athletes but actively resist taking any action to make it not so.

I have seen this with the person looking straight up at the ceiling the entire time. Would this be a quintfecta?

saw a strange one the other day
older mid-40s guy who works out (curls) a lot but doesnt look like it is alternating squats and legpresses. the funny part is he was squatting in the maxrack (a bastardized smith machine with more ROM) with about 10kg on each side, but unusually solid form - at least hitting parallel, weight on his heels, sitting back with good lower back extension etc. It was just bizzare that he was doing these reasonably good squats with practically no weight then doing what I guess was 150kg+ on the leg press machine. so near yet so far lol...

Finally have something worth adding to this thread...

Missed my normal morning w/o yesterday because I was studying all night for an exam. So decided to go to the gym tonight (Uni gym). Now I remember why I avoid going at nights at all costs.

I walk in, place is packed. Like every cardio machine + machine period has someone on it, and most have lines of people waiting as well. Ab/stretching area has 0 free spots as well. I head to the squat/power racks (only 2) at the back of the gym. Obviously these are empty. I do a few warmup sets of squats, then realize there are no (45) plates beside the squat rack. Or the power rack. Or any of the other weight stations. I think wtf is going on.

Then realize some hero has loaded up literally as many plates as possible onto the leg press. He must've had like 8 or 9 on each side, and screamed as loud as possible while doing his 1 inch rom beastly reps. Add in a bunch of benchmonkies hogging the rest, and I had to rely on 35's for squats. Sadly, I saw a buddy of mine at the gym who I've told about SS outright admiring the leg press champion. His quote was 'I've never seen anyone do close to that much doing squats, so leg press must be better for developing leg strength'.

For once, I saw somebody actually doing squats in great form yesterday and he let me work in with him.

Then his friend got on the Smith machine next to us, put the pad on and was doing some weakass front squats. The guy doing real squats started making fun of him really bad, it was awesome. I just laughed, didn't need to chime in at all

35lb plates are the gayest things since sliced dick. If I ran a training facility one of the stated highlights would be "We do not use 35lb plates on the premises."

I mostly agree. I have a few and I hate them. However, they are useful for increasing the ROM of the deadlift if you want to use strictly 35's. That's the only useful application of them that I've seen.

They're also good for making people at a distance think you're benching 225 when you're actually benching 185.
