I just have a few...but lets get a good list going.

1. Monday 5pm is the busiest time at any gym. Watch how at the same time throughout the week the place gets emptier and emptier and people get more lazy.

2. The most in-shape people (not necessarily trainers) are the most amicable people at the gym. They enjoy being there as seen in their results. The most rude and obnoxious are usually the people who are out of shape and don't feel comfortable.

3. Only 1/3 of people bring towels to the gym (Gross).

The dudes with the biggest muscles only do various machines, curls, and bench press.

Fat people are only seen on steppers

The people who read books on cardio machines are always fat

The skinny teenage boys will only do isolation exercises like hammerheads and curls.

Attendance goes way down over the summer months (I've never understood that)

haha...this is so true.

I have another: people don't understand the concept of removing freeweights and stepping away from the weight rack to do their exercise. I prob have 2 near head misses a day from gym yambags just trying to grab some weights myself.

People are doing one of two things:
- Exercising
- Staring at themselves in the mirror

Yobz,

Add "socializing" to that list and you're pretty much spot on.

1. Lots of people have no idea how to lift weights/do exercises correctly.
2. You can use the gym mirrors to check out girls without them knowing you're being a creep.
3. Personal trainers (at my gym, atleast) are a waste of time and money.
4. This is sort of a weird, personal belief. Middle-aged (32-40 I guess) women really want to get banged. They keep themselves in pretty good shape at the gym during the day while their husbands are at work. They read all those whack women's magazines about 10 secret sex tricks and how to keep your face looking youthful and crap like that, and they're always looking at/flirting with different guys at the gym. Their fantasy is to bring that trainer from the gym home and let him beat it up like she's 23 years old again. This is an unusual observation, but I see these women in the gym and it's all I can think.

Women on the bikes/ellipticals/stair-climbers are almost always fat and ugly, while women in the weight room are almost always hot.

The main exercise for women in the weight room is curls.

There aren't enough power racks in the gym.

There's almost always at least one guy in the locker room who makes you feel uncomfortable.

LOL at you thinking you can't do either of these exercises behind the head.

The benefits of doing it behind your head as opposed to in front of it are negligble, and the chances of injury are increased several-fold from the amount of force between your shoulders and your neck.

Personally I'd like to avoid shoulder surgery, and unless you're trying to target specifically your rear deltoids for a body building competition or something it's pretty much unnecessary.

The majority of people in the power racks in the gym aren't even using them.

Force between your shoulders and neck?

I can't comment on how much more dangerous they are compared to the front. But the benefit of doing them at both angles is less then negligible.

I think many exercises people do in the gym are useless, but i've always known both of these to be legitimate exercises.

For example, see this site which discusses the various forces imposed by bringing it down behind your head.

I'm not saying it's bad for you but the possibility of injury is higher, and one's shoulder joints aren't too stable to start with in general.

Sorry for the hijack

the last couple weeks I have seen a lot of the curl guys doing fixed weight barbell curls in the power rack so they can watch themselves while being very close to the mirror...good god people, at least use the rack barbell if you are gonn take up the rack, but a fixed weight bar, wtf?

this goes w/out saying but most people care more about the amount of weight theyre moving than the proper manner in which to move it.

every time i go i see 3-4 meatheads using weights way too heavy for them. they look ridiculous lifting while their hips are flying around and their head is bobbing.

In the year I've worked out at my gym, I've never seen anyone else do a deadlift. Or a power clean, clean and jerk, or barbell shoulder press. Also, zero hot girls in 18-32 range, and I've seen maybe two hot MILFs, one is 35 and speaks mostly Spanish, other is late 40/early 50's and Bulgarian.

i have seen deads/cleans done very rarely, usually with poor form...don't think i've ever seen anyone else do a standing barbell overhead press, seated ones all the time...

and really how is it possible that you have never seen a hot chick? do you go at like 3am? go on a saturday at like 10am and there will be tons of chicks on the ellipticals...i lift at a 24hr fitness fwiw...
