Played a pretty easy soccer game at 6:30, played a the second half of a kickball game that started at 7:15, had a BLA(vocado)T and pounded a few beers afterwards, then got my lift in, pretty solid night so far I'd say. Maybe the stop at the bar was the missing piece from last week, bench felt miles lighter than Saturday. Weighed 193.8 this morning

Just ran 5k in 23:00, 19 second PR. Knew I had a shot at going sub-23, so really pushed it over the last few hundred meters, couldn't quite make it. Still a great time though. Weighed 194.4 this morning

I got down to 170 the last time I dieted seriously, although I pretty quickly got back up to 180 and hung out there for a while. We'll see when I get there and readjust I suppose. I was thin but wasn't ripped at all at 170, so it's not like that was underweight or anything. I am only 5'10, so lol BMI and all, but 180 is still technically considered overweight, and it's not like I'm benching three plates and just off the charts with muscle mass

So first the bad news, didn’t make it into the gym over the weekend and then had to go get seven stitches in my chin last night after a nasty collision during my second of three soccer games. Other guy got it worse though, he realized at the last second that I was coming hard out of my net and was going to beat him to a through ball by a step and tried to stop, but all he did was skid into me and take my chin right to his eye, he’s going to have quite a black eye to go with his stitches. Mine just blends into my beard, barely can tell.

Good news though, just ran another 5k, crushed it, 22:32. Even played a couple of sets of tennis this afternoon beforehand. Stopped the clock for about 15 seconds a little less than seven minutes into the run at a light, but even including that it was another PR. If I get down to 170 and keep running like this whole time, I’m going to be in sub-20 territory I bet. Wasted my time as an undersized offensive lineman in high school, should have gotten lean and ran cross country.

Weighed 194.6 this morning

Today:

My wrist is finally starting to feel better, the tennis I played yesterday was pain free and I did all my warmups up to 115 today before deciding I could feel it a little bit and it needed to be taped up. Other than that, it was ok. Thought I was going to get a sixth based on how smooth my fifth rep felt, but couldn't get it above my forehead. Squat was decent, sixth rep slowed pretty significantly but never in doubt.

Weighed 192.4 this morning. I also perused your log loco, see that 19:11 is the mark to beat in H&F. Seems like quite a ways off, but if I keep dropping the weight and cutting 45 seconds off my time each week, it'll be game on. Going to have run an official 5k one of these days rather than just rely on Google Maps.

Did 5.08 miles today in 49:07 in a steady rain. Little faster pace than my last long run, still felt just as easy despite kicking up the distance a bit. Forget what I weighed this morning, but I was 191.8 after I got back from the run, 194.0 with my rain-soaked shirt and shorts on.

Bench felt heavy again, slightly better than the first attempt at 180 but not much. Felt a little pain in my left pec towards the end of each work set, never felt that before. Hopefully it’s just some weirdness and goes away. Deadlift was it’s usual consistent self, fairly easy. Weighed 193.0 this morning

Ran 5k in 23:45 in 91 degree heat. Started out too fast, was at pretty much the same pace I did my last 5k in, and then faded towards the end in the heat. Made my usual 15 second stop at a crosswalk 7 minutes in, but that was it, hit every other light. Weighed 193.0 today

Played a couple sets of tennis today, then went on an easy run when I got back that consisted of two 1.53 mile loops with a couple of minutes break in between to drink and get hosed down by my landlord who was fortuitously washing his car in the 90 degree heat. Forgot to wear my watch, but I'd guess somewhere between a 9-10 min/mile pace.

Weighed 190.2 this morning, probably a bit dehydrated from a half dozen or so beers last night. In any event, I feel like I'm thin enough now that I can run shirtless in this heat without jiggling too badly, so I've taken advantage of it these past two runs

Played a game of soccer right before this in a non-air-conditioned building with the outside temperature 94 currently, think it took a lot out of me. Got peppered with shots all game, by the end I was absolutely drenched. Pretty much the only part of my shirt that wasn't soaked through was my sleeves. Combine that with continuing to lose weight, and sets it up for a less than ideal result. So I'll stick with these weights next time.

Weighed 191.2 today. Belt is already starting to get loose again, should have drilled another couple sets of holes a couple weeks ago when I added one more set.

Did a late night 4.05 miles in 40:56. Thought it would be better to wait for it to cool down to 77 instead of 95, still felt a lot tougher than my previous easy runs. Probably didn't help that I had a burger, fries, and a couple of light beers after kickball earlier tonight and then gave myself 2/2.5 hours to digest it all before running. Had a home run tonight though, 2nd game in a row, so tack on some SPRINTING before as well. Weighed 190.6 this morning

Yesterday:

Bench felt ok, little lighter than last time, but still not fast enough to try a sixth rep. Deadlift was pretty good, although had to give it my all on the last rep. Think I was either 190.x or 191.x yesterday, unsure.

Just ran 2 miles in 14:23 just now in 97 degree temps. Played an easy set of tennis beforehand. Weighed in at 195.6 today, not sure what that's about. Didn't eat that much yesterday and then had three beers I think at night. Only thing I can think of is that I was busy for a lot of the day and only got my morning ephedrine/caffeine, maybe that's acting as a diuretic and so I retained a bunch of water. Got a bbq to go to in a bit, so we'll see what tomorrow brings. Happy with my time though, didn't fade really at all in the heat, good speed run.

Little better than last time. Would have liked to have finished out the press strong, but oh well. Good news is I did all my warmups and was feeling only extremely mild discomfort, so I decided not to tape up. I'd say my wrist is 95% back at this point. I've got a double header Sunday, so I'll give a no tape test run there too. Worst part of today was we broke out a slip n slide yesterday in the heat and I burned my shoulders, which is not ideal when I'm scheduled to squat the next day. But I made it through.

Weighed 195.4 today, which makes a little more sense. Didn't do too much damage during the apps and main course, but put quite a dent in the dessert table, although I decided to abandon my plate and what was left of the blondies I brought, probably didn't need to eat 2,000 worth of dessert today. Back to a decent day today, 1,890 cals plus whatever was in a bunch of cherries I had for a snack this afternoon. I find the only way for me to control calories is to eat very little for lunch and breakfast and give myself plenty of rope for dinner

Just did 5.77 miles in 52:38, so a 9:07 pace. Felt pretty good. Thank god the heat finally broke and it's just a regular high 70s day, not humid 90s. Weighed 194.0 this morning.

Today:

Deadlift: 6x395

Rebounded from a bad first bench set where I wasn’t really tight and had to had to grind out just four to have two decent sets. No chance for a sixth on either one though. Deadlift was a major step up in difficulty. Sixth rep almost certainly would not have counted in a meet, had a hitch before locking it out. I wasn’t 100% sure I did 390 last time, makes me think I did 385 by mistake. I guess I’ll see how 400 feels next time

Thinking about going for a run later tonight a little before sunset, wonder how I’ll do after a deadlift session. Also weighed 194.4 this morning and did some damage at a post-funeral luncheon, so have to get back on track this week

And ran 5k in 23:31. Little disappointed, felt like I was putting up a really good pace, but barely came within a minute of my PR from a few weeks ago. Who knows if deadlifting earlier affected it at all, but it felt good though

I've found deadlifting before running slows down my time--but I only really *feel* it when I run the morning after deadlifting.

Lifting weights is not as big a factor as hot weather. You want to know your real 5k, run at 55F on flat course near sealevel. I saw a study somewhere where we lose VO2max after every degree above 63F.

But I agree with you, you could be very talented at running and not even know it. You should get on a 5k program soon and lose some weight. I can't imagine running a 22 minute 5k with a 35 pound dumbell in my backpack and I think i am taller than you or same height.

Just did 3 miles in 27:26, then 1.25 miles in 12:19. Planned on doing two three mile loops with a stop for some water in between, but started to feel some tightness in my side about 8 minutes into the second loop. So I walked for a block or so until it went away, then jogged it home. Was already a little banged up, must have landed awkwardly on my left shoulder yesterday because it's a bit sore today, and then I also jammed my left wrist the exact same way as I jammed my right wrist, taking a shot off of it from close range. I don't think it's as bad as my right wrist was, but still, I finally felt good enough to not have to tape up the right wrist both while pressing and playing soccer, and then I promptly hurt the healthy wrist, sucks.

And for the record, I'm 5'10 loco. Trying to drop some weight, down 15-20 pounds over the last three months or so.

5k in 22:56 @92 degrees

So finally got back in the gym yesterday. Had a busy day Tues and couldn't make it in, got called in for a last-second sub for a soccer game on Weds, and then played in one yesterday and hit the gym on my way home. Was a little banged up, got peppered with shots both days and was pretty sore, although managed to pull out a 4-3 win yesterday. Weights felt about the same as the last time, same press, lost a rep in the squat at +5 pounds.

Sore today again too, although once I started running the bruise on my left knee stopped bothering me as much as when I was just sitting around. Started out super fast, did the first mile in just over 7 minutes, but then faded a bit in the heat. Still, going sub 23 in this weather is pretty great. The only other time I went sub 23 it was 72 according to Weather Underground, so probably a pretty comparable time. Weighed 191.0 this morning.

Had to deadlift first, and it felt pretty good. Bit of a hitch on the sixth rep again, but not horrible. Bench was super heavy, just one of those days that I seem to run into sometimes. Will redo it and see if it goes up faster next week, but I was maxing out on triples. Weighed 191.2 this morning.

Did a late night 3.48 miles just now in 34:07, 9:46 pace. Took it pretty slow. My legs are killing me, just so sore from playing so much soccer and all the diving around and banging they take. Got a nice bruise on the left one especially.

Press felt good, went up reasonably fast. Worked up to the first squat set and my legs were just sore and dead, so I did one triple and pussied out. Might reload the lower body the rest of the week
