How much does what you can squat actually have to do with vertical? Interesting question will probably research it

Put in your squat and weight for an estimated vertical.

Not sure whatsoever if this is even close to accurate at all

Yeah I've seen that before. I think there's a decent correlation as long as you aren't lopsided one way or the other.

When I plug in my number it comes up pretty accurate, although probably slightly higher vert than I have.

I'm crazy lopsided probably... squatting like half my weight... says I have like a 10 in vertical

I haven't tested my squat max in a while, but I'm guessing I could do 355, that puts my vert at 31"

If tried to test my vert 10 times I could prob get that high 1-2x

I think the LAG aspect is a little overblown. In yellow chip for the most part most of the donators are still loose passive, although many of the fishies do get irrationally confident with premium hands. I guess when you are playing 65% of your hands and continuously chasing 4 or 5 outers, when you finally get those Aces you get a little overaggressive/irrationally overconfident in bad spots (ie 6789 boards in multiway pots)

Interestingly to what Kpowers was saying, when I played 5-10 and 10-20 LHE 6max the difference between me (small winner) and the big winners was my river showdown stats too low and my win % at showdown too high, so this is probably true in the live games too, although to a lesser extent, because a good 20-40 LHE today is still much more passive than a good 5-10 LHE 6max was in 2005 (or whenever it was)

Also, I apologize for the off-topic poker talk, but I am banished from all other forums so indulge me a little if you can.

Interesting. It guesses 32.5" vertical for me based on a 385 squat* at 200 lbs.

I'm 6'2" and I have about a 29" vertical.

*But then again I haven't tested my true 1RM before

ya with squat-> vertical, it's one of those things where you need a min X lb squat to have a chance, and you combo it with some plyo training to get the "explosiveness". If ppl power clean, I'd be curious to hear your numbers. PC+SQ should have a decent vertical.

JF, how tall are you and can you dunk?

Almost 6' 1" and no I can't dunk

Rub it in, jerk

Another interesting thing I came across on vertical jump bible (likely the best jumping book atm) is that training a combo of squats+plyo is best. Results were from a 6wk study.

Squats 3.30 cm
Plyometrics 3.81 cm
Squats + Plyometrics 10.67 cm

VJB is online for free if you google it. It's mainly Squat/PC/DL/core + 4 different plyo routines based on your weak point, run for 12 weeks.

I've done iterations of some of the stuff in there, but I run out of WIM after like 6 weeks and I see almost zero difference in my vert.

I'm sure I'm doing them wrong, but I'm gonna give it ago again, starting tomorrow. With heavy work on plyo stuff

One nice thing about being 5'9" is you never have to agonize about trying to work on being able to dunk.

Cool, from what I remember, plyo is pretty taxing on your legs, and it can take you multiple weeks to recover and see a difference in vert. But then like 3 weeks later you can randomly jump a few inches higher. Something to consider if you are playing ball or doing other things. GL, please keep an accurate blog on it

Seems about right for me, 180 with a squat around 300-320 and an estimated vert from 27-29.

Yeah with a run I can get about 5" over the rim. I can dunk a tennis ball. I would guess cleans would help a lot as well

I've always stalled out at 275x5x5, but this time around I ate a lot (of protein) before stalling out at 295x5x5.

This week I reset back to 275 and am really focusing on do extra squat work and extra eating, I really wanna make some big squat gains for my vert
