Serious question: I remember back in the day you used to lament the fact that you didn't think your son would be into sports at all. Now he seems like a fairly typical sports-loving kid (or perhaps moreso). So, how did it happen?
Lament might be a strong word. I don't remember the post in question, but it may have been tongue in cheek.
Anyways, to answer your question how did it happen, the answer is probably "The Patriarchy." I am kidding, but not really. For good or bad, I am a few beers in and just finished posting in Politics, so I am feeling very abstract and philosophical right now.
Like most (but not all) kids he is fairly sensitive to mainstream gender norms, and seeks peer acceptance by emulating them. So basically, he is a typical socialized hairless ape.
I guess the goal moving forward is to try to impart it is ok to be different and to respect everyone regardless of their differences. Although my understanding is that moving forward the lions share of socialization is going to be done through peer interactions, so I guess the hope should be he makes good friends.
