You are doing great. It looks like you planned ahead and didn't eat a ton earlier in the day so you had plenty of room for wings and some beer, plus you ended up getting lots of protein.

It's good to get out and socialize especially if you are just sitting around a lot. Don't feel bad at all about the days you go out and don't eat so healthy if it improves other parts of your life as well.

Kayak fishing is the nuts. Very social, therapeutic, and fish to eat. I go at least 50 days a year.

Yup, but I accidently reset some stuff on my computer and can't get in account except for on my phone (already logged in). But I haven't been playing poker, and kinda felt like a new start health wise anyways, so didn't really care.

Yeah thats true. I actually planned to have even less (no quinoa) but i was really hungry and knew I was going to work out before wings, and we eat wings pretty late so prob better to eat something before working out.

Whereabouts are you from? I meant kayaking and fishing as 2 different things... never fished in a kayak. What do you do with the fish when you catch them?

On the Pacific coast near the CA/OR border, aka the middle of nowhere, aka suburban Redding.

Kayak fishing is a great workout and motivator to get in good condition with a strong upper body. Your life might even depend upon it, how's that for motivation?

Keep the fish in a burlap sack. It is almost never hot here so I don't pack ice, but in warmer areas you also bring ice along to keep your catch cold.

Most people who see us 5-8 miles offshore in kayaks think we are insane. I never argue with them, but we welcome folks to the madness. There is probably a forum for upper Midwest kayak anglers that you can lurk. You might have to join and contribute to see fish porn, the NorCal guys to the south of me do that. The PNW guys to the north don't. Ymmv

Up north at the cabin i'll kayak alot in the mornings which is a pretty good workout on the lake.

Ah ok makes sense, I was gonna say wouldn't want some of the fish with teeth just bouncing around in bottom of the kayak... I wonder if could just pull them behind the kayak on a stringer. Not like we'd go fast enough where would risk ripping out.

Interesting idea i'll have to keep in mind!

anyways heres today

Today moved up and im officially 5 lbs away from benching twice as much as i squat. Pretty sad!!!!

If you don't have sea lions or sharks to worry about, dragging them along side is an option.

Benching 2x squat? You'll fit in around here just fine. . .

Haha not too many sharks or sea lions in wisconsin.

its funny how a couple years ago, I'd never squatted, but could leg press about 630 + weight of the machine 3x8, weighing about 150-160 lbs, but could only bench like 95. Fast forward and weighing 60-70 lbs more I'm squatting 95 lbs but benching 185. Kind of reversed.

I like to picture crashjr as a cross between Ron Swanson and Ben Wyatt. Mainly b/c Ron could never figure out how to 2p2.

I'm pretty sure those 2 people are uncrossable. Can't figure out what that would look like!

crashjr.

Actually Ben Wyatt doesn't work so well. I guess if you cross Ron Swanson with a hippie type then that's what I picture. I went with Ben Wyatt for the nerdiness but crash doesn't seem nerdy just sort hippy/reddingy.

How every week I have a recap I'll have a monthly recap, but this month has only been 10 days since I started, But i'll do one anyway

Starting the 22nd
-225.0 lbs, 28.1% BF

November 1st-
-218.8 lbs, 27.0% BF

Weight Graph

Now as Calories go, My goal was 2000/day on Avg

So Calories goal- 22,000
Actual Calories- 27,151

And here is a graph of those

First week was rough, and although hard to tell on the graph looks about same slope but I've been slightly under my goal on avg the past couple days which is good. However we'll see how weekend goes once drinking.

I don't know who those people are. Google says they are characters on a show I have never seen.

Waffles- why drink? Put the bottle down bro

Yugo-

I am unrustleable. Thanks for playing.

crash - not actually trying to rustle tbh.

Btw, if you knew who Ron Swanson was you'd realize that I wouldn't even try to rustle you b/c it'd be pointless.

I... kinda agree. Solid day to day weight loss did not occur for me until I stopped with the beers. There are so many problems with it.

1. the calories, of course
2. I think it introduces bigger swings in weight, probably water retention or some ****. This can be pretty discouraging or confusing
3. I dunno about you, but when I drink, I eat.
4. it reduces athletic performance and also the desire to work hard, even if you don't drink that much.

First I switched to scotch/bourbon/tequila, then I cut that down to once-ish a week, and then I just cut it out almost entirely - I now drink like once every 2 weeks.

Since then I've been losing about 6lb/mo which is a lot considering I was already around the high end of normal BMI.

It is also argued that alcohol slows down fat oxidation - it slows down the rate of fat loss. I find that I want to eat crap the day after I drink, for some reason. I hardly drink at all but it seems to be the one thing that can send me off track at the moment. It may well have scuppered any chance I have of losing weight this week, but we will see. I enjoyed the Halloween party, and it only comes along once a year!

Alcohol consumption is a big reason why bros put on weight in the first place, and leads to a case of the ****-its on a regular basis. Add that to complications from anti-social tendencies and depression, and drinking on any kind of regular basis is insane.

I mean, if you are at bouchon you are obviously going to get the wine pairing. There is a time and a place for alcohol, but daily life when you are cutting and depressed is not one of those places or times.

Add that to the 50k hand goal and drinking is even worse. Put down the bottle bro, you don't drink socially anymore.

I honestly can't imagine just not drinking at all. Been such a part of my culture(s) forever. Living in Belgium started going to the bars every weekend around 14. At Belgian college it's way worse than American college. Students run the bars. If you're a member of one basically drink for free. Over a couple years id probably drink 20-30 beers a night. From freshman year at least 5 nights a week to the last year I was there. 2-4 times a week.

Family is big drinkers. All holidays start with a Bloody Mary with breakfast drinking all throughout the day. Especially dads side of the family from Wisconsin.

What do you mean by I'm not a social drinker?
DaDude waffles on his weightloss Quote
11-01-2013 , 04:03 PM
I meant it as an affirmation. I didn't mean to say that you had gone pro or anything.

I know how big of a role alcohol can play in a life. I went to Chico State back in the #1 party school days. I was active in the local homebrewing club, made my own wines, beers, and had access to a still. Family affairs were always about wine. I have some crazy Napa connections and drank wine that you can't buy at any price.

If you keep drinking at that level, you can wake up 10-15 years from now, 50+ lbs heavier and starting to deal with the health problems that go along with all that. This forum is a graveyard of weightloss logs, maybe 1 in 10 go on more than a few months with the weight staying off. Don't let loco come in here and write your obituary. Quitting the regular drinking will give you an enormous boost.

I'm not suggesting that you quit entirely and attend meetings. That would be silly, unless its court ordered or something. I'm just suggesting that you give it a rest until you reach your goals, then reevaluate.

Consider that your culture has gotten you to the point you're at now, and you're not required to blindly keep following it if it's not working for you.

I agree, and played a small role in the reason that I moved home. I loved belgium and really felt at home there, but I wasn't happy with myself there. I rarely drink more than once a week which I feel is a huge improvement and reasonable. Also don't get hammered like I used to, just have a good time with friends.

What do you count as "regularly"? (as everyone has a different perspective)
DaDude waffles on his weightloss Quote
11-01-2013 , 05:26 PM
For me, regularly would be having it in the rotation of things I eat/do. More than once a month would probably be "regularly" since its in the rotation. Associating it with things you regularly do like pregaming, tailgating, watching the football game, hitting the bar after rugby, etc. would also count as regularly.

Basically make it so that drinking is not a regular part of your life. Your goals are still attainable if you don't, but it will just be that much easier.
