I helped 2 lifters at raw nationals this weekend
Friday, father in law in the -83 kg class for 60-69 years old, he was a bit heavy, so controlled water a bit and we where fine
Father in law finished second to an old weightlifter, but we won the bench. He squatted way high in second attempt, he lifted 145 deadlift in last but got downward and not locked. DL was meet PR, bench was same as PR, squat his meet PR is 110. Training has been on and off since last year, but I think he will make a good PR next year. Also winning bench ofcourse is the most important.
Saturday I help a 25 year old female we train with, she needed 405 kg to make the national team.
We got 140 in squat, unfortunately she decided to squat high in the warmup, I did what I could to correct it, her opener was sort of on the line, but 3 whites, so I figured we where golden, then her second got red lighted 2-1, so we retook to be safe, we maybe should have increased by 2,5 or 5.
Bench, on the second she said after all bench that the head judge coughed, when he should give the press command, if I had known earlier I would have tried to get a relift from the jury.
At DL, we took a decent opener, I would have started her lighter she would have allowed it. Second I wanted her to go for 405. The total needed for national team ONLY counts when done at nationals, so I wanted to give her 2 tries at it, instead of spending power on 400 total and DL medal. 2. was not very good, died halfway up... I found some ammonia for third, she did a very nice attempt, but just couldn't lock it out.
She did PR all lift and total, but we really wanted the 405. I believe she will do at least 405 at her next meet in 6 weeks.
Also side note, she used to be an elite rower, but quit the sport 1 January this year, she had her first meet May 2017, and did NO weight between May and 1-1-2018. I believe she will add 30-50 kg to her total within a year. She did a DL on meet in the end of January where is got 155 and missed 165, saturday she would have gotten 185 guaranteed.
Another girl from my team finished second with 410 for a 32,5 kg PR in the same group.
