Might have to rethink some of the lifts on this more hypertrophy focused back day. Really not liking any of them. Doing the commando chins to keep a one arm chin movement in the workout but maybe my Tues/Sun sessions are enough to maintain and/or make minor improvements. Really want to make the lat prayers happen but they just kinda hurt my shoulders and don’t pump my lats so what’s the point?

Been quickly shedding the handful of lbs I put on going off the rails in July. Averaging 2,200kcal/day and actually reduced my walking quite a bit. Wouldn’t stun me if my NEAT is up though. I was at 1,700kcal/day at the end of my diet in June.

Two weeks into this six week block. I think it’s going ok but if I could highlight an area for improvement it would just be focus/intensity during sessions. Too often I’m rushed or sneaking away during a work break to squeeze in a 30min session. Problem is I like going during down times and that means during the day.

Only issue with the Kilter board is like 90% of the hard moves are with the right hand and that’s the shoulder that’s causing me grief. Otherwise it’s great I can stay away from everyone else, masked up and just do my thing.

Looks like we will be trying to put masks back in place in Dallas. I never stopped but 99% did. My weightlifting gym will skirt the rules so I’ll have to put that on hold, can’t justify supporting them. Climbing gyms already sent out notes saying they’ll enforce the mask rules so that’s good for me.

—These sessions are somewhat demoralizing. I was in such insanely good power endurance shape pre COVID. Now…not so much.

In positive news apparently eating 600g+ carbs/day and sleeping 9 hours each of the last two days left me feeling much better overall today. Who would have thunk it?

Signed up for booster vaccine appointment tomorrow. Walgreens turned me away today, lame.

—Received my third dose of that sweet sweet Bill Gates vaccine. CVS made it super easy didn’t even require anything from my rheumatologist. Sore left arm next day and maybe some overall fatigue but hard to discern if that’s just from all the activity lately.

Either way super happy to get another round of science jabbed into my arm.

Back wasn’t fully recovered from the intensity session Sunday. I have however been recovering well from my hypertrophy sessions on Friday. I might need to change this day and Sunday so the intensity day has an extra day off. It’s likely the lock offs that are the culprit. I might just reduce the RPE on those and see.

Not going to go climb today. Want to relax and make sure I don’t overdo it the day after the booster dose.

Really struggling last couple days, even with good sleep and plenty of food. Think I added too much volume (plus a third climbing day per week) overall and didn’t listen to my body when I had those slight injuries in my right shoulder and trap. Was supposed to have two weeks left in mesocycle.

Decided to take two light training days, rest tomorrow and decide what to do Friday. Could either be tie start of a deload or just what the doctor ordered and I can run this meso through the 2nd week of September.

Medium intensity bouldering 45min

Shooting for 2,500kcal/day next couple weeks. Thinking three high days, two medium and two low. So 2,750-2,900 on highs, 2,500 medium and 1900-2100 on rest days. Good guesstimate is at 140lbs my maintenance is 2,250/day. However as weather cools I’ll inevitably walk more so need to be mindful if the scale isn’t moving.

Averaged 3,100 calories last three days. Really been trying to up my healthy fat consumption. I tracked what I thought was a high fat day last week and it was like 49g lol.

Grades are so subjective but in my limited experience Gunks grades are harder than gym grades. The Gunks has reputation for sandbagged grades but I haven't traveled enough in recent times to personally confirm. Many route that are 5.4-5.6 were established in the 30s,40s, and 50s when the hardest route in the world was thought to be 5.9 so it makes sense.
