Geared lifting is so technical. I probably cut depth because I did not descend cleanly. Notice my knees broke forward at the top as I started my descent before I sat back. I need to sit back at the start of the descent to get that weight cleanly. The goods thing that I did was I racked it very solidly (I didnt feel like I was getting crushed) and kept the bar path over the center of my feet well by keeping my torso upright.

That's awesome.

I agree with your self-critique... looked a little wonky because of it.

Just sick numbers though...I dont know that I could even unrack 700...

3/10

My new squat suit arrived, and I have plans that will keep me from squatting next week, so I decided to head to the gym and squat while my team DLed. I was not going to wait two more weeks to start using this suit when I have already waited six weeks to receive it.

Squat
151x5
261x5
351x3

briefs
461x2
551x1

new suit (Inzer Leviathan Ultra Pro (ILUP))
641x1 - high. need more weight.

knee wraps
731x1 - deep and smoked. I suggested to a teammate that maybe this should be my opener at my next meet in this suit. He agreed.

821xf. A couple things happened. As I was nearing the hole, my butt shot back a little as my left knee came in a little. That made it so I had no power to go up. The suit should have been a little tighter too.

This suit is adjustable with cords on the sides. I didnt have it on very tight - I kept it the same tightness for all three attempts. It was too tight for the 641, perfect for the 731 and a little too loose for the 821. This will take some adjusting.

On the 731, the suit made it feel easier to stay in my groove on the way down better than other suits I've worn. I think I'm going to love the suit. My teammates who were at the Arnold last week said most of the 1000+ lb squatters were using this suit. Two of my teammates came home with their own ILUP.

Since it was supposed to have been DL day, I decided to DL for secondary. Apparently lots of people at the Arnold were using ILUPs for DLing, so I figured I'd try it out. I loosened it all the way to what is now the ends of my cords (my teammates adjusted them for me prior to squatting).

I had trouble just getting to the bar with a conventional stance. I made it down there once by shoving my knees way out and getting on the sides of my feet and had a good grip, but I could not get in a good setup position with my knees inside of my arms and a belly full of air. All the people but one who used this suit for DLing at the Arnold pull sumo, and the one who pulled conventional with it had bad form. I figured I could get to the bar sumo style.

sumo
455x1
Super fast, meh form, and I scraped the **** out of the top of my left knee on the descent. Enough of this. I took the suit off and did the rest of my pulling in briefs only.

455x3, 3, 3
495x3
All reps were fast. Form was good on all except the first rep at 495, I got just a little forward.

No. I might try another way to find a decent setup wearing that suit for conventional DLs, but no plans to go to sumo. I thought about trying the B Magnusson roll the bar in then pull style. Maybe I will try that sometime.

I'm pretty confident I'm better at conventional after pulling nothing but sumo for a year (after the back injury in 2011), then pulling more conventional than I could sumo the week after that.

Do you ever do any yoke work? I've seen strongmen around here carry ~50% more than they can squat.

Yeah, I would try the dynamic lift before sumo...imo.

I assume you're talking about one of those big contraptions you rack like a squat bar then carry like farmers walks? I havent done those, but that is a great exercise. A teammate of mine who used to do a lot of strongman stuff told me he could do 900 lbs for some significant distance that I dont remember. His best ever squat was in the 700s with multiply gear.

Yes. Shoulder blade position. They have to be pulled down tight.

Racking the bar on my back = unracking the weight off the pins.

Doing it right makes heavier weights feel lighter on your back and it prevent you from messing things up like your neck, upper back, shoulders, etc. When I do it right, 600 lbs feels light.
I tried this yesterday after reading it here and it helped me a lot. Thanks.

Hopefully I can continue with that kind of form when the weight gets heavier. That didnt feel super heavy - I dont know what weight will be. I'm pretty sure I wont fail 665 several times like I did a few months ago though.

Obviously lat pumps. Also, being single arm, they work the serratus and obliques. The reason I've been doing these exclusively for rowing lately is the because the cable handle moves freely, it doesnt bother my arm issue. When I use a machine or fixed double handle without straps, that can give me some arm nerve issues.

230x5
320x3

briefs
420x2
500x1
601x1

suit
741x1 - it was supposed to be 731. It felt harder than 731 did last week. Part of that was the heavier weight, but part was probably because the hips in my suit were not quite as tight.

I tightened the hips on the suit.
831xf
I picked it up 3 times before attempting to squat it. The first time, I kind of GM'ed it off the pins and tried to descend. I could tell that wasnt going to work as soon as my knees broke, so I reracked it. I stepped back and took several seconds, reset and picked it up again, but my feet were not far enough ahead. The weight was all on my toes, so I set it down and reset again. By this time, I had expended quite a bit of energy. I moved my feet forward a little and picked it up again. Halfway down, I could tell it was not going to come back up without help. I heard the up command and it sank another couple inches before I got rescued.

My left knee felt bad after this. It was tight when I started warmups. It loosened up and felt ok after doing some mobility work and more squats. It felt fine after 741. I'm pretty sure I have a lot of adhesions in my left quads that need attention.

I decided since the knee was angry at me, I would do DLs as secondary work.

DL in briefs
455x3
Right hip felt bad. It felt the way it has been feeling when I max out benching lately. I havent felt this during DLs or squats recently, only benches. I figured at this point I should stop everything.

The hip felt worse when I got home, so I loosened it up with a lacrosse ball. That helped a lot, but its not all the way gone yet.
