Thanks!

The squat - that's the first time I had over 705 on my back. I need to get used to handling it.

The bench - I pressed 535 off my chest in training once, so I know I can do that when I get my **** right.

MN Power Pages already posted the results from yesterday. My coefficient score was 521.5023. The guy who won was 537.8175. His total was 2259.7 @ 269.4. My total was 1890.5 @ 239.4.

The only other person with over 500 points was a raw guy that was really the strongest person at the meet. A raw guy squatted 837 @~237 bw. That was the biggest raw squat ever by a Minnesotan. He totaled 2072. And his form needs some work on all three lifts, so he has a lot of potential to do a lot more someday.

idk what type of formula they were using. Wilks, Glosbrenner and Schwartz-Malone all give different numbers than this. I would have actually won with the total I had by S-M because I would have got more of an age adjustment. As near as I can figure though, I got 13%, which is the same adjustment as Wilks and Gloss. If I had gone 9/9 on the attempts I made, I would have been at 1945.6, which probably would have given me the win. With 1945, I would have won by both Wilks and Gloss with 1945.6.

cha, you've been lifting with gear for ~1 year(?) in that time have you got stronger? if you were to do some raw lifts would you set some PRs?

Hard to believe the guy lifting in those videos you just posted is the same guy lifting in Zubaz is the first couple posts of this thread.

Thanks.

Thanks! yeah, I have come a long way since then.

yeah, its been a little over a year, and I'm still getting stronger overall, although my DL has plateaued recently. I knew the 705 I did last August would be a tough one to top. Everything went right that day.

I did attempt a couple heavy raw benches a month or so ago to see where I was at. I smoked 385, then 405 got stapled to my chest. Raw lifting is a lot different than geared lifting. Not just because of the technicalities (form is way more critical in gear), but also because of the strength curve. My bench lockout is way way stronger than ever, but I am relatively weak off my chest now because I dont do any heavy stuff off my chest without a shirt anymore. I would guess if I went back to raw bench training and worked on speed off my chest, I would be able to press 425 raw. I dont plan to do that though, because the shirt protects my shoulders and pecs. That's the reason I got into gear in the first place - first to rehab a torn pec, then to protect my shoulders and hips.

After this meet, I feel less sore than I can ever remember feeling after a meet. Rawheads can say what they want, and I still do respect people who want to lift raw, but geared lifting is a great sport imo, and I love doing it.

I just looked up the guy who beat me on powerliftingwatch.com. He's currently the 3rd ranked geared 275er in the open class. He had a 2436 total at the meet I pulled 705 in last August. I thought I recognized him.

3/20

bench press
45x15
95x10
135x10
185x5
225x3
275 - I did a bunch of singles. Something is wrong around my left shoulder blade. I had little strength to press this. Normally, the weight flies up fast. All day, the left side was out of whack, like weak and unable to pull the bar apart like I normally do. I had a chiro look at me and he said nothing is wrong with my spine, so it is not a facet joint thing. Between he, I and my coach, we think its built up scar tissue somewhere in my rotator cuff muscles. Since it isnt really painful, but something is wrong, I just did some light work.

3 board press
275x3x3 - It felt a little looser each set.
315x3 - My left shoulder kept trying to shrug up all three reps. It felt bad, so I went back down.
275x3

machine rows
4 sets of 15, increasing weight each set to ~200 on the last set. This felt fine.

face pulls
135x15x3
This felt fine

pulldowns
I have no idea what the weight was, but it was not heavy, and it did not feel good, so I stopped.

What do you mean when you say "pull the bar apart?"

Obviously you can't pull the bar apart, but you want to use your back muscles to make your hands feel like the bar is bending and pulling out. That activates the right back muscles that keep your shoulders in a good, safe position. When you do it right, its like you're loading giant springs with your lats so the bar flies off your chest quickly after you touch it.

I was out of town for a few days. The gym was closed, so I lifted a little at home today.

3/27

bench press
45x15
105x10
145x3
The left shoulder thing is still going on. It doesnt hurt, but its not working right. I figured I'd stop benching at this point. I have an appointment with my chiro tomorrow. I hope he fixes this.

trap bar DL
270x5x3
360x5
450x3
540x2
540x1 - oops, forgot to add another plate
630x1x2 - this felt heavier than it should have. **** jet lag.

GHRs
12x5

reverse hypers
180x12

It felt good to lift a little again. The trap bar DLs always make my upper back feel good. Back to regular DLs Tuesday.

Low energy again, but not quite as bad as DLing on Tuesday was. Everything felt harder than it should have.

4/3

bench
45x15
95x10
135x5 - I could tell the left side still was not right.
185x3

put on loose Fury shirt (old rehab shirt)
315 of 3 boards - stapled to chest

After that I did a little machine tricep work. The left side wasnt doing much work. I need to get this fixed.

Went to my chiro today. He said the teres major and infraspinatus were as bad as they were last week when I saw him. He did a lot of work on them, and did a lot of stuff with the radial nerve as well. He said I could DL and squat, but should lay off benching and other tricep stuff at least until after I see him again next Wed.
