Andy Bolton & some others do that. Its something I just started trying recently. I dont know yet if I like it or not.

RDL - I stop going down when my hips stop going back. I definitely feel that in the hamstrings - they were still very sore yesterday, two days after doing that. I do them that way because it puts less stress on the lower back and more on the glutes & hamstrings.

My MP3 player is pretty cheap, but the speakers I have it plugged into are nice. I just set it to play all the music I have for a group. As Yugo says, sometimes I'll skip through some songs before attempting big lifts.

he has an iPod or whatever hooked up to speakers fwiw. I assume he just has a bunch of full albums on there and switches between them.

55x10, 105x10, 115x10, 147x5, 197x3, 239x3, 264x7x2 - This was supposed to be 8x2. I underestimated how hard it was going to be the first set and got too loose to even attempt #8. On the 2nd set I ran out of gas and failed #8. I should have smoked those sets. My bench is weak right now.

I put my feet close together and that made it easier to keep my glutes tight, which makes it easier to keep the whole body tight. Another good cue from Supple Leopard.

We have some sort of stretch rack at the gym. Not sure how to describe it. It's a bunch of wooden dowels/cylinders lined up horizontally. Anyways, I found I can put my foot up on one of the bars (as opposed to 90 degrees in the video) and make the stretch work. I noticed that the higher the angle of my back leg, the more it pulls my quad.

- Absolutely essential. Easily top 3 reason to have a home gym

No doubt. I am all too aware of how easy it is to view a personal benchmark as a midpoint to an ever rising goalpost, but really, deadlifting 500+ is excellent. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Assuming your biceps aren't too big to reach around.

I'm going to send in my registration for the USPA meet on 6/1. Right now I don't feel like I'm going to break any PRs, but I can come close, and I will be able to qualify for the IPL worlds in Vegas in November. I think I want to do that.

http://www.uspla.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=209

http://uspla.org/home/wp-content/upl...-Standards.pdf

I'm raw master's 45-49. I'm not classic raw, which allows knee wraps that I wont be using.

I need a class II total of 1130 (loleasy) to qualify, which breaks down as 424 squat (that would tie my PR - I have a shot at that); 283 bench (loleasy); and 435 DL (loleasy).

Right now, I'm guessing my openers might be 386/308/496. I guess I'll be satisfied with ~413/320/518, so ~1250+ total would be ok I guess. I'd love to do more, but I've lost some strength the past couple months.

I just took a closer look at the USPA site - I think I would qualify for both USPA nationals in Vegas in July, and IPL worlds in November. I sent an email to the meet director for clarification. I might want to do both of those.

To qualify for the national USPA meet, all you have to do is have a total from a USPA meet within one calendar year of the National meet. Im doing the national meet in July in Vegas to try and qualify for the worlds. My total from my last meet was like 12 lbs shy of qualifying

12 lbs shy? rigged.

cool - if I end up going we should meet each other.

My age must make qualifying a lot easier for me than it is for you. What do you need for a total?

Hey Cha, no workout in 6 days, what's the hold up?

So a lot has happened with my injury and I'm very curious to see what you have to say since you know a lot more about this stuff than I do. I went back to the doctor and was able to get a referral for a PT. We've had 2 appointments now, and the injury is starting to feel much better. He thinks that it's something in the lower back, and the pain in my leg is coming from there. He basically has me sitting with a lumbar roll whenever I'm sitting to keep me in extension and also doing this thing where I lie on my stomach and push myself away from the floor to extend the low back (10 reps of that every 2 hours). I tried to write up my understanding from what we talked about today in my log, and I'll paste it here:

Quote:
The way I understand it, in the center of each disc there's some viscous fluid-like stuff that gets harder as you get older. He thinks there's some fissure in the back of the disc so that lumbar flexion pushes this fluid out towards the back. Then when I stand up and walk that's where the pain comes from. As I move around and walk for a bit, the pain goes away because the fluid is being pushed back towards the center. So the lumbar roll is supposed to help keep me in extension (or at least not flexion) as much as possible to let the fissure heal. The 10 rep extension things he has me do is to try to more forcefully push the fluid back to the center.

Anyway, he said I should notice more improvement over the next few days, and hopefully we can begin with the next phase when I get back from vacation where we will start putting me into flexion so that the spine heals in a functional way.
Any thoughts? Does my understanding make sense? Anything going on here that jumps out at you?

Thanks in advance!

I figured he was really busy, because he's taking a lot of heat in the timberwolves thread and he rarely posts.

Lol. Well, yeah he's always gonna take heat in the Twolves thread b/c he overreacts about almost everything. But that's kind of how it works with fans who are really into a team. He's definitely one of the better posters in that thread, he just posts so much more than some of the other guys who clearly have trouble being objective.

Fwiw, I'm sure I'm not objective at all but I do agree with a lot of what Cha posts about the Twolves - maybe 70% from guessing. And even if I didn't, his links to things are often pretty good.
