theres two places im considering since they r closest to me, i assume i should take a sample class at each. what should i look for? one uses gi for BJJ and eduardo de lima is the head BJJ instructor but he works at like 4 diff mma gyms around here so im skeptical of how much time hes there. other gym is no gi and has an octagon, shane dunn is the coach. not as many classes on the schedule but that may not be updated. both mainly focus on bjj and some muay thai w some mma classes. ive been puttin off goin to a class for years excited to finally do it
Awesome man. There was a thread on the UG about starting BJJ and this post pretty much summed up everything, and everyone agreed. (The Gameness Gi part can be ignored, OP was asking about Gis.)
"1st Rnd KO - I started 5 months ago. Here's what I have found:
1) Where a cup
2) Wear a mouthpiece.
3) Gameness Air. $139
4) Eyes and Ears Open, mouth closed.
5) Fundamental Drills will take you a long way. Sometimes less is more.
6) Guys that are better than you will help you get better, unless you try to show them
how tough you are by going nuts. Then they will give you nightmares.
7) If you are old like me(46), don't worry about tapping, recovery takes alot longer at my age.
But don't be a pussy either.
8) When rolling with a girl, you will only think about banging her until she locks a sub on you.
Then she's just another dude in class. After class you will think about banging her though.
9) You are going to have tons of fun, if you let yourself.
10) Leave your ego at the door."
