Today's workout

Squat: 315 lbs x 5, 335 lbs x 5, 355 lbs x 5
Shoulder work

Today's session was ok. Haven't slept well the past couple of days, so I was a bit tired. I also rushed the session as we have company coming over for dinner. Got all the reps, but wasn't the best I could do. It happens.

Reps 3 - 5 were the best ones because of the position of your head at the start of the pull.

Thanks for pointing out the good ones. Head position is something I’m trying to keep an eye on as I noticed it was off too.

With weight this light it doesnt feel like that big of a deal, but when it gets more heavy and difficult, keeping your head tilted a little up will help you keep your weight back and your back tight and in good position.

Just realized it has been a while and I should probably give an update.

Haven't been training in a while and probably won't start up again until sometime in the fall. Life has made me busy and gave me a bunch of excuses to not train, which unfortunately I took. I needed some time off due to elbow pain, but I think I got over that a bit ago but didn't get back to it.

My middle daughter graduated high school in May. Not only did she get her HS diploma but also got her Associate's degree at the same time.

Oldest daughter is moving to Australia in July for about a year. She is going to Hillsong College for some type of Bible Studies stuff. Not really sure as a) I'm not paying for it and b) I'm not all that religious. And before you ask Snitch, I will not be giving you her contact info. I know you are married, but she doesn't need any of your c^nt influence.

Wife is doing fairly well. Neck pain is good but she will probably need some physical therapy to get everything back to where it should be. Right now she has bronchitis, a sinus infection, and an ear infection. Thought she was dealing with allergies over the weekend but dr on Monday said it was all of those things. She is getting better with that.

Work has picked up a ton and I will be heading to a remote village for a bunch of time between now and October, which is why I probably won't lift until the fall. Heading out to site on Sunday and probably will only be back 2-4 weeks total between now and the middle of October (depending on how the project is going). Good thing is that there is some great salmon fishing out there during the summer so I hopefully will be eating well. We are working (6) 10 hour days per week. Sun doesn't set until 2342 (as of tonight) out there so I should be able to fish after work each night and probably all day Sundays - probably do a bit of hiking as well.

Sounds excellent. Complications aside, the family sounds like it is doing well. Take pics of the hiking for us please.

Things are going fairly well. Will try to take a bunch of pics between fishing and hiking. Will post when I can.

Been super busy at work so I haven't been hiking yet. We are in one of the best fishing areas around (Bristol Bay - Dillingham is the city I'm in) but access is horrible. I have only been able to find one location where we can fish without a boat and the fish haven't gotten that far up river yet. Yes, I have talked to a bunch of locals and got the same info. All of the beaches are covered with the locals' fishing nets so I can't fish there. Hopefully the fish will get up the river soon so I can get some salmon. Haven't found any good hiking areas yet either, but have been a bit reluctant due to local bear activity. One guy got attacked in a boat yard on his way to work on his Dad's boat. They have killed 2 bears last week due to nuisance/attacking. Will try to get out and do some more things when work slows down a bit. Once that happens I will try to get some pictures posted.

Went homr for a week last week and got back yesterday. It is rainy but I got to go fishing this morning before the rain came in. Saw a bunch of salmon but they weren't biting. I did get 2 dolly varden though. The bigger one looks like it was caught in a gill net which they use for subsistence fishing up here.

Filleted the smaller one up and cooked it for dinner. Came out pretty good - lemon juice, fresh garlic, peppers, onion, salt, and pepper. Baked it for a bit.

I gutted and removed the head and tail of the larger one. Plan on cooking that tomorrow for dinner as 2 more guys are coming out in the morning (just me right now).

Here are some pictures from the back side of the camp I am staying at. Took these a few weeks ago, before the rains came in. There were moose prints around but have only seen 1 moose in the 3+ weeks I have been on site.

Went fishing Thursday after work for a little bit. This is on the Wood River. It was cloudy but there were a ton of fish going by. Snagged one (hook not through the mouth) so I let it go (illegal to keep snagged fish in fresh water, but ok to keep in salt water). Otherwise there were no fish interested in anything I threw at them. 5 kids showed up about 30 minutes after I started and they had no luck while I was there. Figured I would take a couple pictures looking downriver from where I was fishing (just up river is a large bridge, sometime I will take a picture of the whole area). This has been the only place where I could find access to any river around here. Can't fish the beach due to the locals all having their fishing nets out (subsistence fishing is common in the villages up here and you don't mess with that).

Went fishing again today and the sun kept peaking out. Tried to take a picture of the fish going by. Hard to see, but there are a lot of them. Steady stream like this for the 2.5 hours I was there. Still no bites. There was another lady that was fishing and she snagged 2 (let them go, which I was happy about). She didn't get any real bites either.

The fish going upstream right now are Reds (aka Sokeye). They are notorious for not biting at anything. These are ones people tend to dip net for (where legal like the Kenai river) and then smoke them. I'm hoping the Silvers (aka Coho) start running soon as they are more likely to bite and their fight is really fun. From what I have heard their run is usually in August here, but sometimes start late July. I used to fish for them a lot in Kodiak where the run was usually September time frame (start around August but run through September).

Today’s workout

Squat: 225 lbs x 5 x 3
Press: 115 lbs x 5 x 3
Accessories

I’m still alive. Went home for a week and a half and found out that I will be working out in Dillingham until the end of the project (sometime in Spring). Original plan was for me to be done when the subcontractors are done (early December). A couple guys found out that we can get a “membership” to use the High School gym. Got back here yesterday and decided to start lifting again. Figure I can continue lifting at home when I rotate out on R&R. Hopefully things go well with this plan.

Tuesday's workout

DL: 225 lbs x 5
Rows
Shrugs
Accessories.

Thursday's workout

Squat: 235 lbs x 5 x 3
Press: 120 lbs x 5 x 3
Accessories

Taking it fairly slow getting back into lifting - pretty much do this every time I start back up. I'm keeping this really slow due to not being near great medical in case I screw something up. There is a hospital here, but I don't really want to have to utilize it. Things are feeling pretty good. My elbow and shoulder on my left side (this is the shoulder I had surgery on a couple years ago) are fairly sore. I'm doing accessories to help strengthen both as I don't think the shoulder healed all that well. Who knows, I may just be overly cautious on any minor twinge there. Figure going slow, trying to build it back up is the best way forward. Probably not going to bench while I am out here as that is what always aggravated my shoulder and elbow the most. Will try to log a little more consistently, but not making any promises. As long as I'm getting the work in I will be happy.

Another thing that sucks about being out here is that this weekend is the Alaska Fitness Expo in Anchorage. Each year he brings in some interesting guests - both in the body building world and strength training world. This year's strength training world guest is Mark Bell, would have been interesting meeting him but that won't be happening this year.

Today's workout

Squat: 245 lbs x 5 x 3
Press: 125 lbs x 5 x 3
Accessories

Very straight forward workout. Not going to be videoing these sessions due mostly to internet issues. We have limited internet data and I'm not going to eat it up by uploading videos. Will video when I lift at home for form checks, but just going to let it ride for now.

Another straight forward session. Probably will be straight forward for a while. Not sure when I will switch up programming, but I'm guessing it won't be for another few weeks.

This morning's workout

Squat: 265 lbs x 5 x 3
Press: 135 lbs x 5 x 3
Accessories

Pretty straight forward sessions. Just realized I hadn't posted Thursday's yet.

Been fairly busy and the weather hasn't been great except during working hours. Hopefully I will get some time off when it is nice out so I can do a little small game hunting (grouse, rabbit, fox). Saw this guy down at the dock on Friday, but not in an area I could shoot it and it was during work hours.

Tuesday's workout

DL: 275 lbs x 5; 295 lbs x 3; 315 lbs x 1
Rows
Shrugs

The 275 x 5 felt too easy and I was starting to get bored with just the 1 set of 5 on DLs. Figured I would just do a bastardized version of 5/3/1. Probably will do something like this again next Tuesday with just a bit more weight.

Yesterday's workout

Squat: 275 lbs x 5 x 3
Press: 140 lbs x 5 x 3
Accessories

Been really busy at work and have been out doing physical work instead of just desk stuff. Long days but these still felt pretty good.

Didn't workout yesterday. The weather was chilly and clear all day so I decided to walk around/hunt for some small game. Didn't see any small game, but the hiking was great.
