Thinking about doing Warrior Fitness Boot Camp run by some ex-Marines in New York.

Yelp reviews are overwhelmingly positive...but on the flipside, their FAQ talks about jumping jacks and ab workouts.

Anyone experienced this or something like it?

Here are the pricing plans -- what's the optimal # of times per week to do hard metcon-y workouts like this?

Pricing:

Option 1

10 Training days (1 Month Expiration) - $500 ($50 per class) w/discount - $425 ($42.50 per class)

20 Training days (2 Month Expiration) - $800 ($40 per class) w/discount - $680 ($34 per class)

30 Training days (3 Month Expiration) - $1140 ($38 per class) w/discount - $969 ($32.30 per class)

Option 2:

3 Month Unlimited +1 week free- $1500 (3x per week - $35.97 per class) (4x per week - $26.97 per class) w/discount - $1275 (3x per week - $30.57 per class) (4x per week - $22.93 per class)

Yeah that does sound expensive, especially if you think about it from the perspective of a Russian peasant. Wonder if there's cheaper in Manhatan

I'm just looking at it from the proprietor's perspective. 5:1 trainee client ratio and they are grossing well over $150/hr...probably more like $200-$250 when you consider no shows.

I'm in the wrong business.

I hear great things about it. My only thought from descriptions from people is that it seems progress is slow, but that is my personal opinion. For example, some girl I met did this for three months and still can't do 30 push-ups. But each one is different.

Until you consider overhead. The insurance alone will eat a good chunk of that. Then you have a medical professional on standby, water, rent, etc. These guys are probably pocketing about the same as any mid-level PT.

That's why I said gross. Medical professional on standby? PT's get a cert and CPR - that makes you insurable, no need for anything else afaik. Operating the space is obviously huge, but if these guys are successful (a price that high suggests they are) then they are making bank regardless. Insurance is also not very expensive - I pay $200/yr and the only application I did was filling out my member ID for the (jokeament) organization I'm certified with.

Group classes are absolutely the way to maximize your hourly. The fact that these guys are charging what they are for bootcamps - which from what I can tell are mainly just a lot of yelling, pushups, burpees, running etc. - is what's amazing to me.

Wow, even Crossfit gyms are way cheaper than this. And you can probably find ones that are all about metcons (even if it is suboptimal programming).

Going by what is described to me, there is a physical therapist on standby, but I wouldn't know if that is specific to what I heard of or if that is a law.

I doubt that one-on-one insurance is the same for group insurance. I pay about 200 per year but it is far from full coverage. ...... But no doubt they are probably doing okay.

But back on track: I wouldn't be interested, but that's because I have my preferences in working out. But I would most certainly encourage it if you want a community to work out with, want someone to push you, and you want to stay fit.

i'm pretty sure insurance is the same whether you are training 1 person or 50 people. its also good to be someone people are scared to sue(puts gun on desk next to computer like Rippetoe).

Nice.

Obviously I am speaking from massage (got First Aid/CPR/EID also.), but the way it works for me is that I am allowed to teach a class of 6 people. If I want to teach more, then I have to pay more, depending on the size of the class. I'm probably making a broad assumption to state this works the same for PTs. I also imagine the injury rate is considerably higher when you are running in sand and on stairs. But I digress.

I think insurance for facilities is usually based on total revenue. Definitely will be more than $200/trainer, but not say $500/month or anything like that.

I blogged (lol) about bootcamps on my website, but my thoughts are basically:

-no progression
-no learning technique
-all metcon
-usually (not here) 4-6 week only programs
-(in this case) way overpriced

My advice to OP is if he can afford this camp, find a really good Crossfit Box. Get unlimited access and pay for personal training once a week - should still have a little cash left over.
