congrats! another marathon and a new pr.

thinking of doing this marathon next December...mostly a timing thing. what are your overall thoughts about the race itself? looking for a cool weather option in florida. I know you said the course wasn't very scenic (most aren't) and parking sucked (as usual). neither of those issues are a deal breaker.

don't be discouraged...maybe i'll see you next year.

I’d definitely recommend that race. The course was flat and fast, all blacktop roads that were in decent shape. The weather this time of year is usually good, I think the average temp is in the low 50s. The Pensacola marathon is also a good one, it’s always on the Sunday of Veteran’s Day weekend. That course is more scenic with a couple of decent hills. It’s also a full loop instead of an out and back.

Congrats on being a multiple marathon finisher and crushing your PB!

If all marathon race experiences were like that, I'd also think about quitting. Fortunately it can go complete the other way and then it is a very rewarding feeling. Given your mileage increase this year, I think you have a very fair chance to achieve that, so if you still feel the itch, I say go for it :-)

Anyways congrats on a great year - have yourself a great Christmas!

Tron,

The half marathon went pretty well. It was a tougher course with 5 or 6 decent uphill climbs (for Florida anyway lol). I faded a little the last couple miles and finished around 2:07:30, about 2 minutes off my PB.

After that I definitely lost some motivation and only ran 8 times in 3 weeks before the Double Bridge 15K in Pensacola. That’s my absolute favorite race and I wasn’t prepared the way I wanted to be. I did ok the first 10K but faded again, finishing in 1:32:22, 5 minutes off my PB.

I didn’t run much the rest of February, only got in 25 miles for the month. I’m back at it though, helping my daughter train for her middle school track team. She’s gonna be running the 800 and the mile so we’ve been starting with some easy paced 3 mile runs. I’ve run 5/7 days so far in March and plan on doing a couple of 5Ks and a 10K over the next 8 weeks.

It’s been a similar experience as last year after the marathon but this time I didn’t take 10 weeks off lol. I plan on ramping up the mileage again with a goal of a sub 2:00 HM sometime later this year. Not sure if I’ll try for another full marathon but who knows!

Bumping this thread for more awesome. You are definitely the man.

I started a half marathon training program (am now on week 10) and want to shoot myself. I'll paddle or xc ski forever, but this running stuff? Insane. And I'm not really running the much.
