Seems like that advice would apply more to suited squatting.

jdock - got it. I thought maybe you were a writer or had a job in a related field maybe, but previously assumed for some reason that you're likely a programmer or engineer maybe, I dno.

Yeah I kinda worried about posting that....probably be better suited to juiced squatting too imo. but I think it has some pretty good points that can be pulled out and applied to our standard LBBS or even a HBBS.

Especially the wider stance giving better glute ham back activation.

WHich is really why I posted it. If Dave Tate says so, it must be right.

I am not an artist by any definition of the word. I do science research.

It is actually ironic because when I first started posting a lot a couple years ago I would make comments on science related topics I actually know a lot about (mainly in SMP, but a little in this forum) and then someone who knows nothing about the topic would tell me I was wrong, but because they didn't know what they were talking about I couldn't really argue with them. How can you argue with someone who doesn't even understand what they are talking about?? This is probably a generic internet phenomenon, but I found it a little amusing and ironic nonetheless.

The lack of depth could just have been the weight being too heavy and cheating it a little, but I'll definitely try some experimenting with stance width at the heavy weight this evening to confirm.

Yeah, I have read that one before, and it does have some good points.

Try just the wider knees, as opposed to moving your heels out, imo.

Will give it a try...

Another question: have either of you done anything in the way of rack/partial squats? Worthwhile or waste of time?

I have never done anything but normal squats. I have tried box/front/hbbs squats once or twice.

Though i do see a few people wearing that brand around the gym - particularly crossfitters. Depends on your goals i guess.

The link HS posted is a good source of info, and Wei Rui warriors are a reasonable price with good reviews for squat shoes. They should be back in stock soon. Or the adidas powerlift trainers are another good option
all i care about is looking like a baws! might go with the adidas those are pretty cool looking . thanks again aidan

Just got these for my birthday and I love them -- should have done it a long time ago. Whatever you get will be well worth it imo.

Same here, never done anything but LB/HBBS. I think they are good for training your CNS to take on heavier weight and I have read that you can do a set of them in front of your heaviest work sets and they will help your worksets feel lighter.

Yeah, that's what I heard too. Jamie Lewis is a big proponent of both rack pulls and rack squats, and was curious to see if anyone else had given them a go.

June 8th 2012: Intensitrocity

Squat: 395x4
Press: 135x1x3, 95x8x3
Deadlift: 350x4

Possibly could have wimmed out a fifth in the squats. I think the depth is better than the previous vid, but losing back extension as it gets heavy. It is what it is, hopefully a decent volume workout in next week and I'll get all five and keep moving up.

The real cluster**** came in the DLs - 350lbs strapped was Assani-esque. I videoed it but am honestly too embarrassed to provide the link. Just could not achieve or maintain back extension shifting it off the floor. I really need to look into my effort or programming as to why I am not progressing at deadlift/back strength.

Looks like the barbell is twisting on every rep, no idea why though.

I have some ideas to share regarding Squat vs Deadlift....

I have always had problems keeping my deadlift stronger than my squat. Check this old post: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...&postcount=106

Miles & I devised a program that I ran for 3-4 months after Texas Method, and I actually added quite a bit to my deadlift, while still slowly progressing on squats.

The 3x5 squat on the 2nd Friday is another recovery. And if I were doing this now, I would probably do Kroc Rows instead of pendlay.

Thanks HS, i read through your thread from that post on and it looks like it could be worthwhile - hopefully deadlift progress drives squat progress as well.

Speed DLs at 60% of 1RM right? how did you select the weight for the RDLs?

Weighed in at 169.0lbs this morning. Hoping to end this cut at the end of june... Current estimated 1RMs from lifts over the last little while:

Wow. Those #s seem pretty massive to me given your weight (and somewhat recent noodz) - when did you start lifting again?

60% of 5rm iirc. Just try them and add weight if needed, but the goal is speed (obv).

Don't remember for RDLs, just guessed.

About 18 months. I guess it just depends how much weight you put in the estimates. I think I'd be good for the squat and press (done 155x1, vid on front page), bench would be close (done 205x1), but doubt very much i'd get near that deadlift.

Thats ridiculous Aidan. You are probably at 1100
pounds already at 169 pounds. We are basically same height and weight but you lift 400 pounds more in the three major lifts!!!!

Hate you. Benchpress 4 Rollz now.

Well, it ain't a total unless its done in a competition, so I'll hold off on calling it that for now. Obviously Im pretty happy about my progress, but still plenty of weak points and things to improve.

So I typed up the HS program as I function better with something to stick in my book, and hopefully make it easier to comply.

Edit: there is an RPS Meet near me in October I would like to compete in but I have to sort out some logistics. Hopefully it comes together and I can make it.

Looks good. I really liked it, and progressed on it for quite a while. (ignoring the fact that my upper body lifts stalled/stopped completely due to shoulder injury around the same time.)

You hit 345x5 fine, so I wouldn't beat myself up too much about not hitting 350x5. Sometimes with deadlifting I find it is just not my day.

Plus I think when you move into advanced lifting territory (I am referring more ability to recover than weight per se) it is real challenging to design programs where you can squat and deadlift heavy without one lift compromising the other.

June 11th 2012: Deadlift Week Day 1

Speed Deadlifts: 245x15x1, 30 sec intervals, double over and chalk
Bench: 170x5x5
Squat: 285x5x2
Ab wheel: BWx12x3

I definitely noticed a difference DLing before squat. 285 is normally ez pz, but this was brutal. Hopefully this little rearrangement will do good things, but it may well just have been one of those days as you say jdock - we'll see wednesday!
