Day #47 Calories/Exercise

Calories in: 1783
Exercise: Elliptical
Water in take: Complete

Meal 1: Zucchini Crust Pizza
Meal 2: Grilled Chicken Breast, Roasted Broccoli
Meal 3: Pulled Pork, Roasted Broccoli

Meal prepped a bunch of meals. I find I cook a lot healthier when I cook in bulk, rather than cooking singular meals. Not going to lie, I was craving some bad food this evening. I am so used to eating terribly on the weekends that it almost feels wrong not to eat something bad on a Saturday night. I was torn between going to get something bad but I still had calories left over even if I would be hungry later or eat one of my pulled pork and broccoli meals. Not going to lie, the fact that I didn't feel like getting in my car and driving somewhere to get something bad played a large part in me eating healthy tonight lol.

Well, Milestone 2 is complete. Officially down over 20lbs in 52 days. I was pleasantly surprised and happy this morning when I stepped onto the scale. I stepped back off and back on quite a few times to make sure it wasn't a miss read. After being rather stagnant for quite a while, then dropping 3lbs the past two days, I was honestly expecting it to be a grind to reach the 20lbs total lost milestone. Well I suppose I am going to celebrate a bit. Not today, but tomorrow. I have a surprise 30th Birthday Party to go to and I shall throw myself a bit of a party as well that evening, in eating whatever I want. lol

Using food as a reward in general, much less when you're overweight and trying to "lose as much weight possible in 90 days" seems pretty suboptimal.

A less aggressive daily deficit would allow you to budget in reasonable amounts of tasty food so you wouldn't feel so deprived to the point that you have the urge to eat entire pizzas on your "cheat day", but as you like I suppose.

i think classifying these things as optimal or suboptimal is misguided. it really depends on the person. i have found a lot more success going aggressive for 6 days with a fat day. does that make it optimal in general? who knows, but it's certainly optimal for me since my dieting habits were kinda meh when i tried to approach a moderate daily deficit with less than clean eating habits.

results are all that matters and his results are trending in the right direction, keep grinding go go go

There's a difference between optimal with regard to short term compliance and optimal with regard to long term sustainability; I agree that given how much weight he had to lose initially, pretty much any kind of diet that incorporates caloric restriction is going to produce initial results.

My intent was to gently prod him to be a bit more oriented towards long term sustainability if there's a longer term goal than looking good in a photo 38 days from now; we have a lot of weight loss logs started by people that have tried unsustainable deficits and/or haven't revised their ultimate thinking about food, and essentially all of them have been failures. I'm not trying to rain on his parade or anything, just pointing out that an adult male averaging 1300 calories per day for 6 days a week and then having an untracked cheat day is a plan that's unlikely to work when/if he loses another 15 or so pounds.

That said, I'll stop tarding up his log by responding any further unless he's interested.

If this was a lifestyle change log, I would whole heatedly agree with you, I know this isn't sustainable long term at all. But this was "lose as much in 90 days" because at the end of those 90 days I have a photo shoot for my buddie's wife's new wedding business. After the 90 days I will transfer into a sustainable one.

I feel like you didn't read the intro lol

But thanks for your input anyway, and for swinging by to check out the log.

tbh i think his current habits are more sustainable longterm, but that's an argument for another day.

i am biased because i've seen people in systems where they aren't supposed to have cheat days, they just try to keep it reasonable with a mild deficit, and they fall off the wagon because they can't take it anymore.

i'm also biased because i've been cruising for almost 2 months on a 6 day aggro / 1 day cheat system. my body doesn't really let me go overboard in terms of calories on my cheat day since i get full/sick (lol) a lot quicker mashing doughnuts or cheeseburgers or pasta.
