A fair but academic point I think.

What are the impacts of doing HIIT to failure and then some? Can't be good right?

IIRC, in the original tabata study, even with elite athletes training for Olympics, people were dying by the 7th and 8th set of the sprints. So maybe it's still helpful? You're probably not working long enough to get into serious catabolism, I would imagine. (but who knows)

As for the Vibrams, they are getting pretty popular lately also due to the recent trend of people suggesting that running barefoot (or close to it) is healthier than running with big cushioned shoes.

They've been around a while imo. Favoured by people who suscribe to barefoot running.

Any thoughts on the potential quality of this gym?
www.ottawasport.ca
It is a former crossfit affiliate and they appear to have heard of Olympic lifting.

Seems like a bunch of overpriced garbage to me. Mandatory $50 functional movement screening, thirty minute strength training classes, only allowed to go at certain times, not allowed to do your own things, have to do their programming, nutrition section links to Robb Wolf who is some kind of crossfit clown afaik. I can't tell whether the oly lifting thing is included or separate. If it's separate it might be good.

This is standard CF stuff.

Soooo... I know it has been asked 9438092374 times before... but what belt should I get?

I'm currently looking at the Inzer "economy" belt. Was wondering if two prongs is going to be a pain in the ass? Is it worth shelling out double the price for a single prong or lever?

Oh, and you measure around your gut (belly button), right?

Two prongs is a pain in the balls. Get a single prong. And yes your gut.

Ghey. So I guess paying >double is worth it for basically the same belt with single prong?

http://www.inzernet.com/detail_belt....RBELT_BUCKLE13

edit: and if i'm going to pay $90 anyway, should I get the lever belt? Or are single prongs cooler?

Re: **8*8*8 March version Two(2) ***88***8

Just completed Volume day numero uno, so if you guys don't hear from me for a few days it's because I can't move. I'm sure I'll need to adjust the volume as I go but I slightly reset everything so I felt like going for the gold.

5x5 squats @85%
4x5 @90% 1x8 @80% Bench (paused)
8x3 @90% HPC
Chins 3 sets to failure

Volume Day B will substitute Press and Speed DLs for Bench/PCs

Crushing some mac n cheese as I type this, supersetting that with some ice cream and chocolate milk.

I also took a 4lb dump today, with a trip to the sauna I could compete in the 69kg class. Lol90stiny. Feel good though, been going on long walks during the day and the sunlight is doing wonders for my attitude and just overall energy level.

If the first pull is not ever the hard part, as many people like to say, then why do them from the blocks?

Weight on March 1: 305
Weight on March 31: 294.5

Most of that loss was since starting Biggest Loser on March 12.

I'm going to set a goal of 3 lbs per week. Doable for the next few months.

IIRC, kvh actually came out of perma-trolling for that thread. Also daveT seems to have updated his knowledge greatly since then.

Lol, a lot of win/fail in that thread. I didn't read all of it but wow.

A guy came to my door yesterday saying he had some herb and wondered if I wanted to smoke it with him. I politely declined and sent him on his way.

Standard new neighbor friendliness?

love this DaveT quote, I wonder why he disappeared from H&F:
Quote:
Overhead pressing? No, I don't see how that would help your core, except maybe in your serratas. I also think that if you are using your back and abdomens to hold up the weight in sqatting, you are likely using too much weight. Considering many people use a weight belt when performing this excersize, I assume this is because they are putting too much strain on their core, and not focusing on balance. It isn't a surprise that Chiropracty is becoming more popular these days.
ETA: ok read some more, the above quote is pretty sane compared to the rest of his ravings. Wow. Funny thread.

fair enough. I have an office yambag that wears them TO THE OFFICE in order to extoll their virtues as running shoes more effectively. I've listened to him give the exact same spiel five or six times now
