the world doesn't care about your relative strength. i mean, i guess you could come up with some far fetched "real world" examples to prove relative strength mattered, like climbing or swimming or sprinting or jumping, but in the end, if you can't lift the quarter-ton block of lead off the only escape route, you're still screwed.

I also think Rip's statement about useful male adults weighing 200+ lbs is pretty lame. Jaysick isn't useful? Mhm....

Looking forward to adding some cardio so I don't go around as Willie the Wheezing Whale. Holla.

The reason for spreading the protein out evenly is that we, as humans, do not store protein. We store carbohydrates (as glycogen), and we have an almost endless capacity to store fat, but we do not store protein.

Since we require protein, it is important to provide a steady stream of it throughout the day. If the body needs proteins (amino acids) that it does not have on hand, it will attack its stored amino acids (muscle tissue) to get what it needs. This is obviously not what we want.
vs. alan aragon's article on wannabebig here about the old "you can only absorb x grams protein per meal." quote above is from the new "nutrition" guy at the ss boards.

I saw some other lol quotes from him on lyle's forum as well, like this one:

Quote:
For someone going from 25 to 15% mixing whole eggs and oatmeal will be just fine, particularly first thing in the morning.

I generally recommend having either P/F or P/C meals depending on the time of day, but first thing in the morning is a bit different since you are "breaking a fast" hence break-fast.

Otherwise, be done with your carbs by the afternoon, transition to P/F meals only after that, and have your last meal before bed be protein only.
Wtf?!?!? I don't see any reason to take him seriously and think it's laughable that Rip is using him as the new nutrition guy.

Oly shoes are absolutely mandatory. I think OHS is more a novelty than anything, you can't do enough weight to actually work your legs so there's no point doing them instead of back/front squats, and just doing snatches or snatch balance/drops seems more useful than just OHS.

And this?

Or should I just go read charliefrancis and elite track and come back later?

btw, I don't understand the argument in choosing the DL over the squat. It makes no sense/is incorrect. Squat works more muscle over a longer ROM. And the program looked pretty ****ty.
About things never being equal:
It's a simplistic view of sprint training that all you have to do is getting weight room numbers up at low body weigths - which is basically what he promotes. There are plenty of 11.0 second sprinters that throw around way bigger DL, squat and PC numbers at lower body weight than Usain Bolt. Bigger strength often improves performance but there are about a million other factors you have to consider to get the full picture. One of these things is technique, which you can only get from specific work, but Ross doesnt see this as important. When called out on these things he has a tendency to stop responding. There is no "holy grail", but it does sound good when you try to sell a product.

About the angle of attack and 10m runs:
There are olympic weightlifters that can follow very fast sprinters over the first 10 meters. Basically for the same reasons that they often have a huge vertical jump: Their explosive strength is huge, and that is 90% of what you need in a fast start.
The technique(s) used by sprinters in the initial acceleration phase might in fact not be the fastest way of covering 10 meters. But other methods would put the body in a position where it wouldn't be able to apply the force efficiently in the following sections of the race.

I'm definitely not the best at explaining these things (or understanding them for that matter), and the lengthy discussions on both Charliefrancis and EliteTrack are great. On Elitetrack there's a good thread where Ross tries to defend his views, is horrible at it, and disappears when things get too tough.

As for choosing the DL over the squat:
"The squat does not require anywhere near the number of muscles involved in the Dl so it's not as efficient an exercise." - Barry Ross

I agree with you, it's laughably incorrect and makes no sense.

I am not a fan of traditional "bulking" and "cutting", you are capable of pushing your bodyweight up quite a bit on a novice progression while minimizing the fat accumulation. This isn't done by depriving yourself of needed calories as the ab worship crowd tries to do, but rather mainly by timing your meals and partitioning your macronutrients intelligently to avoid storing a ton of fat that you will then need to take off later.

From the article:
Quote:
A thorough literature review by Bilsborough and Mann compiled data from studies by various investigators who measured the absorption rates of various protein sources [6]. Oddly, an amino acid mixture designed to mimic the composition of pork tenderloin made the top spot, at 10 g/hour, while whey took a close second at 8-10 g/hour.
As if we needed another reason to eat more tasty pork...

Dude from work just posted on facebook.

"squatted 160kgs today... feeling good. "

I trained with him (well, in the gym at the same time as him) 4 months ago and have never seen him do a squat. His training partner on the other hand I have seen do plenty of 180kg 1/4 squats.

Cool story, bro.

edit: Oh, I forgot to Ameritard friendly it... 160kg = 350lbs. 180kg = 395lbs.

Re: **8*8*8 March version Two(2) ***88***8

lulz, i just posted...

"Sorry, <name>. It's only a squat if you go below parallel. Ask <name#2>! ;-)"

name#2 being the guy he trains with who I am constantly giving sh*t to about his shallow squats.

fwiw, name#2 is an older English dude who tells me that he used to train fairly seriously for strength before he came to Australia and from his stories (and size and strength) I somewhat believe him. But now that he doesn't have a coach or any desire to train strength anymore he just does a billionty isolation exercises and 1/4 squats.

Folks,

Whats the word on fasted cardio? I mean. I ain't never gonna do it. You ain't never gonna catch me waking up and going for a run unless its because I'm late to the airport. And even that is more like HIIT training as I sprint across the room from dresser to suitcase (Clearly a better plan of bringing the suitcase to the dresser never enters my mind).

But I'm too lazy to subscribe to AARR, and the longer I wait. The more back issues I get access to. So its a terrible Catch-22 IMO.

Dmitri delivered another KB. He is Russian. He is actually somewhat knowledgeable about training. This 2p was only $27 and in better shape. He told me about doing half-squats today. Also about how he used to take a ton of steroids. He's 21. lol Russia. Regardless, he's the type of Russian guy you see in a bubble jacket, who is a clone of Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises... Where he kills two guys who attack him with knives because he's crazy.

Allegedly, ~600lbs half squat. I should ask him about Sheiko.
