and here i was, thinking jaysick was a good guy. maybe you wouldn't flame out of crossfit games if you pounded somed MLH every now and then.

also, cat is back and she's chillin' in my crib. Gonna take her to the SPCA tomorrow and get her scanned for a microchip. She's mad cool.

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

i wasn't a cat person at all, but my brother adopted this one that was chilling in our grandparents' back yard. it's really cool, and unlike every other cat i've ever encountered (who only acknowledge you if they're hungry) she likes to play, will sit on your lap and basically act like a dog that can crap inside

Re: **8*8*8 March version Two(2) ***88***8

i'm in a bit of a jam if she's not chipped and we can't find her owner. I'd like to keep her, but I'm leaving for a 10 day TX roadtrip Weds morning. i could still pull it off, my neighbor would feed her and clean her crap, but it'd be weird to take in a cat and then bolt one day later.

she really seems like she's home trained and all. I think it's highly likely she's lost. I put an ad up on craigslist last night. hopefully someone comes through.

The principle is the same both for weight loss and bulkz.

Basically for cutting: caloric deficit is the same as on a regular diet, say 25% below maintenance. Only difference is, on workout days you do 100% of maintenance with a meal consisting mostly of carbs/protein PWO. On non-workout days, you do 50% of maintenance, with meals consisting mostly of protein/fat. Martin actually advocates moar than 1 g/lbs protein for dudes with very low BF. So basically 2-3 guys in H&F.

Awesome question on Rip's forum:

Quote:
Rip,

I have been wondering about how muscle physiology works. Here's the scenario:

Let's say we have a guy starting a training cycle and his 5RM on the squat is 315#. He's on TM so after several weeks he is able to get his squat 5RM up to 345#. He's also now doing his old 5RM of 315# for 5x5.

So now his is able to do his old 5RM for 25 total reps. Is he five times stronger? I know he isn't since his old 5x5 was 285# - pretty much in line with the percentage of strength gain on his 5RM.

What is it about the 5RM that makes his output so inefficient? I wouldn't think he is storing significantly more ATP. My guess is that nervous fatigue is the cause, but I'm interested in your opinion.

Can someone tell me why "Oh dear god, no."?

I'm asking cause I would love to improve my speed off the mark/acceleration for rugby.

And this is why I asked the other day about whether that Mark Twight article about how the best way to get better at endurance events is to run/ride/swim lots of kilometers, applies to speed/acceleration training? Is the best way to get good at accelerating over 5 or 10 meters is to do that lots of times? Or do things like plyometrics and ladder runs have a lot of cary over into this? What about max speed jump rope? Explosive lifts like power cleans?

Also, I get the feeling that out of all the things we train for, explosivness is most affect by genetics.

All of the above. Improve your squat, power clean, do some jumping and practise sprinting.

I read somewhere that until you are squatting 1.5x body weight, the other things are little rocks.. but I've also read just as much about how ladder drills and plyos are the shizzle for increasing spead... Are they worth doing concurrently? Should you get your squat up, then worry about foot-speed?

Acceleration is all about applying force and getting your feet off the ground quick, right?

Yeah getting the squat up is the most important if you have low numbers but the thought of not jumping or sprinting when trying to get faster even with low squat numbers doesn't make much sense. If you improve your squat and sprint, jump etc sensibly with adequate recovery. You will be faster than someone who just squatted.

Oh, and flexabilty? I've read that if you can't touch your toes, you can make some decent speed improvements by increasing your flexability there. Sound right?

Definitely true for me. I'm also 50% Irish which I'm sure is not helping matters.
