Diet question:

So I'm trying to eat a 500-700 deficit each day except for training days, twice a week where I eat maintenance, and mostly after the workout. Protein goal is BW or 1.5BW, I pretty much never hit 1.5BW even with protein powder and a new cottage cheese obsession... another example is today...where I only at 1300 calories...about 130g protein....mostly because I couldnt eat until 2pm, and then I ate chipotle bowl, and was super full for hours and then just ate some extra protein....

Thoughts on days like this? Probably not bad in terms of weight loss...but probably very bad in terms of maintaining lbm and current strenght #s, huh?

If this was a one day thing, whatever no biggie...but it happens probably once a week. How bad is this? The other part of me thinks, can't be that big of a deal if on other days I don't count things like oil in the pan which are obv. extra calories/etc....

yeah. pretty much came to this thread hoping it got trashed.

every other day you get at least 1g/lb? and once a week you get like 0.7/lb? i'd be amazed if it were significant.

Yeah. I'd say that. Maybe 1-2 days. Also, on deficit days, say you hit your #s, but your protein is still low...should you overeat past your goal in pure protein to hit protein #s, or stick with your deficit cals....

it's like a minny IF once a week. I doubt it's a big deal. Sometimes I do that just cuz I slept late.

Ultimately, your performance and scale will tell you the answer.

FWIW if anyone smart can chime in, I'd appreciate it too. I'm essentially doing the same thing, but more like 2k calories/day on off days, 2.8-3k on WO days.

There's a lot of guesswork in those protein requirements, and they will also be a function of BF% and the size of your deficit.

Also I think Lyle deliberately gives a range on the high side.

So whatevs, if you're doing a moderate diet I would think 1g protein per pound LBM is actually higher than you need.

OTOH....

as ive mentioned before, friends phd dietitian mom was absolutely horrified when i said i was aiming for 1g/lb of protein.

she is a huge advocate of whole grains, fruit, veggies and small amounts of meat.

True. but i am also not eating breakfast...part intentional part not...basically i am not hungry at 6am, i get hungry around 10am, but then can't eat until 1pm give or take an hour...so i normally eat everyday from 1p - 7-8p...so it is basically IF....

I have basically ripped everything I could off of lyle's site with regards to blade and work's contributions in IF and everything off leangains and a few other sites, and I'm trying to do my best bastardized version of IF for weight loss..obviously hard now cuase of work, but come April 1 when I no longer work for 3 weeks, I'll also be doing liss when I first wake up and not eating until after heavy lifting on workout days...

i haven't read a ton on IF, but is there any special version for weight loss? I mean, it's inherently built to limit calories.
