i had to get my inner thremp out
03-05-2010 , 04:25 AM
i bought some straps via amazon. but they got the loop in 'em and i just read that rip thinks that's bad. they're good quality, ironmind, i dunno how long. like 21" or so. i could probably undo the loop.

not sure if the loop is that big a deal tbh.

and tbh not sure i'm gonna use 'em.

I dunno, something that is stretchy and not too long so it catches on your knees while you squat.

SPARQ Baseball metrics are catching on when it comes to amateur scouting. Here's some of the ranks from the PacNW:

http://www.baseballnorthwest.com/spa...ml#oregonstate

Check out the Oregon State kids. The #1 Oregon State amateur is coming up Saturday since he might be moving to the Seattle area; his dad found me through Cressey's website. Kid's pretty damn strong to go with with those sick metrics - 390 deadlift at 160 pounds; he's 16 years old.

Looking forward to seeing how he does with the sled push.

explanation in SS is weird. "they keep tightening" and "they aren't secure" is basically what it says. after using them a decent amount, i can't help but disagree and think that it's just more random stuff that made its way into the book.

The fight from 1.48 is awesome. He picks the other dude up, that must be like 400 or more pounds, wriggling about and trying to slap you upside the head.

Arnold On Obesity

I think it's pretty recent

Rippetoe on foam rolling

That forum is getting kinda silly.

Isn't California on top of the food chain wrt population income?

Regardless, driving through the US it was pretty apparent Californians were slimmer than others. Almost as slim as Scandinavians
03-05-2010 , 08:39 AM
So Cal is def very image conscious and I think it probably it pretty significantly different than Nor Cal wrt to obesity. My buddy's sister married a Scandi and I can verify over that large sample size that you are correct.

The weird thing is, I don't have very many fat friends. I'm probably the 2nd or 3rd fattest guy that I hang out with. Almost all of friends are below 200, and most are quite a bit below.

And F on a side note I met my soul mate in Reno over the last couple days but didn't a chance to hang out with her for more than a minute here or there. I think I need to go back on my next couple days off.

I'm torn on this one, tbh. Rip never really has been one for extensive warm ups and stuff, so it doesn't surprise me that he's mocking foam rolling.

On one hand, a lot of people in this forum swear by it, and I whole heartedly believe them.

On the other hand, I have never foam rolled and unless something changes, I don't really plan on starting because I'm fine without it. For now anyway I guess.

I dunno.

rip hs never been the one for extensive warmups? I for one think the starting strength warmups are very extensive.
03-05-2010 , 08:54 AM
Yea ok, but he could just reply with something like unless you're really stiff it's useless. Instead he just goes crazy.

I'm referring to his "Just jump on a stationary bike for 5 min before lifting" stance wrt SS. I've been doing a lot better, esp with squats, when I warm up with dynamic stretching and not doing stationary bike.

The warm up reps are fine and good, but I think you will find most people here advocate a little extra warm ups, esp as the weights get heavier.

Now I know how much you can DL for 2 reps double overhand. Sick life imo.

Scandic people have 1) delusional portion sizing (see cookie plating) 2) thermal regulation 3) eurotard walkz

Remove all three and you get fat Finnish men IMO.
03-05-2010 , 09:58 AM
I too have delusional portion sizing. The other way, though. I'm pretty much over it, but I fall into it sporadically when I get too hungry.

The whole "eyes bigger than stomach" expression is weird but it def applies to me. It's more

"His greed for food, need for too much variety in one meal, and lack of understanding about his own physiology outweighs his ability to order food in rational amounts"

quick Q about that poundstone vid that was posted about a billionty posts ago... when he is doing that crazy half-clean/press thing... whats the reasoning behind the thumbless grip?
03-05-2010 , 10:26 AM
I was somewhat disappointed with the portions served in restaurants in the Western US.

Only in one place did we get anything resembling my visions of American excess, a little "Mexican" place high up in the Rockies in a place called Ouray. The "appetizer" was enough to leave three grown men pretty full - and it was meant for one person. Weirdly enough the entree wasn't anywhere near as big.
