thanks guys - appreciate the appreciation

did an early am workout today. really disappointing Press effort tbh - the bar just felt really heavy. Was supposed to be 5x3 @60 but I couldn't get the third rep on the first two sets and gave up trying.

So...5x2@60kg

then did a Crossfit workout for the lols after a chat with Arjun in his thread. I think my first WOD in 7 or 8 years.

it was 5 rounds
12 Deadlifts
9 Hang Power Cleans
6 Push Jerks

I did it at 50kg (110lbs) - in the old days it would have been 60 or 70kg (which is the prescribed weight) but while I'm in pretty 'fit' these days, those workouts can really blow you up and I wanted to get through it. 50kg isn't that much weight for me for these movements even now, so it's really a conditioning test.

Did it in 7 mins 15 secs.

I've sent Arjun a video on Whatsapp so if he's willing, I'm happy for him to post the video here.

If I was doing it again, I'd go a little harder and take 3-5 secs less rest at the 3 obvious resting points. But I was happy to get through it and it was a solid enough workout.

DT in 7:15 is really, really sick even with the lighter weight. The only criticism I have is that you were telling me to be aggressive and drop under for my push jerks and yours are even more like a push press than mine are!!

Thanks for posting.

Yeah I was conscious that I was push pressing for the first set and I did try to drop down more from set 2 onwards. Maybe just a function of the weight - I would be jerking every rep at 70 and prob most at 60 top but I can tap and go at 50 without fatiguing. You’re right though

I might try it at 60 over the next few weeks if I can fit it into the schedule

Rest day yesterday

6x5 strict press 55kg
5k slow row 19.57

Felt very strong after the rest day despite too much booze the past few days and so while it was still a relaxed effort, I abandoned my plan to row at 2.05/500m and went a little faster

Planning to do an interval session tomorrow

On vacation til Wednesday. Had to pay $55 for a 4 day pass at the local gym and it’s immediately made me appreciate my gym a lot more.

Some real glamour girls training here tho so....

Terrible sleep last night and just didn’t have the minerals to do 8x500m so did tomorrow’s weights session instead

5x6 Bench @85kg
3x6 DB Bench @30kg db
5x8 Preacher curl 45kg
2x10 Hammer Curl 15kg db

Also have been in and out of the ocean all day. Perfect day here in Byron Bay. Clear blue skies, 88degrees, 2-3 foot surf

Need to drink less tonight so I can sleep well and train tomorrow

Meh

Fitbit gave me 5 hours 10 mins sleep last night which I think was generous, after 4 hours 50 the night before

Sleeping in a double bed with my wife, with shifty hotel pillows when I’m used to a king with special extra firm pillows...not conducive to a good night’s sleep when you’re a Princess like me.

No way I was doing 8x500m today. Actually pretty proud of myself for getting myself to the gym while on holiday and doing anything tbh

5k very slow row - 2.09.7/500m average - stroke rate 16
then
15 mins stationary bike while reading a book

Can’t wait to get home to my own bed, to sleep properly, train well and stop going out for dinner every night

Yep, there are definitely some first world problems in my post. I saw the UK’s graded timetable today and I do recognise a) how lucky we are here and b) what a total shitfight it is over there

Will you go back to your CrossFit gym once it reopens?

I'll go back the day it opens, but continue with Linchpin programming. Our gym doesn comptrain and it is so terrible.

I don't even know why we're still locked down. We have vaccinated 25% of the population and all the vulnerable people have been offered a vaccince (and the majority have taken it). We locked down too late the first time round (when everything was unknown) and since then have locked down way too much. It's so silly.

We just opened our gyms(Albert,Canada) to personal training only but I will not be going back to my box as I switched a few years ago as I moved and it was the opposite to competitive on the programming . To much Hand Stand work, MU
I liked the old box as lots of lifting, sleds, chippers. Sadly both sold
Though I have all my own gear now and will do old programming May 1 st

Thanks! I'm older than you. My lifts would probably look less average in context. LOL. But, I'll leave it be and just post my training.

ave 1.42.2/500 which was a 2.2 second /500 improvement on the previous time I did it. Coming in, my plan was to attempt to beat 1.43.0 for each rep but that proved a little conservative.

definitely a lot more pain than last time and my lungs were burning for the final 3. was close to a max effort - I actually thought the 6th interval was the 7th, so went a little harder figuring I only had one more left...and when I realised my mistake, I was a little fearful I may blow up, so was happy to hold it together, albeit I didn't have much left in the tank for a fast finish on #8

I haven't worked through my rowing plan for the rest of the week - I'd like to attempt a fast 1k on the weekend, but I'll see how I feel
rest day yesterday and I got two nights of good sleep... 91 (best ever) and 81 sleep ratings on my fitbit. the result was a good session and a marked improvement on my previous best for this punishing interval session.

8x500m 3.30r

1.41.2
1.41.2
1.41.2
1.41.4
1.41.3
1.41.3
1.41.4
1.41.3

1.41.3 average, which improved on my previous best score by 0.9/500m
Stroke rate was between 29 and 30

Fit bit heart rate never seems to get above 135 which is clearly ridiculous...I don't know why I even check it.

took Arjun's advice and attempted to row at the same pace throughout the 8 intervals and this was very effective...proven by the fact that I didn't have anything left at all for an all out last interval.

happy with the progress.

I'm back home from vacation, sleeping in my own bed - man...the difference between a King and a double is huge when there's 2 of you in the bed...even if my wife is only 5-1/125lbs.

Clean living for the next month or so now...no boozing, gonna cut down the bad carbs and cut out the unecessary salt and sugar and really focus on sleep, training and work. Looking forward to it and hoping the gains will continue

I'm finally going to attempt a fast 5k this weekend...either Saturday or Sunday, depending on how quickly I recover from today's session.

Also more excited than I should be to move up in bench weight for tomorrow's 5x3....given how weak I still am in my upper body

He has heart for sure, a lot of ex cross fitters do. But he also trains in a flash in the pan kind of way. Will he still be around in a few years? Only time will tell.
