Sept CTC - 8x2min 2r

Wasn't sure how to pace this - I've only ever done 500m repeats with 3.30r and so I might have been a little cautious....particularly given I'm on holiday and my body clock hasn't fully recovered from the jet lag...and was in a strange gym. So I'd say there might be half a second if I did it a second time and looking at my relative position, I'm currently 56th out of 458 which is about my worst result so far.

But still a good session at RPE 9.5ish and I was happy to get the heart rate all the way up.

***also did some seated row, lat pulldowns and tricep pushdown/extension supersets. no records broken but good to get 15 mins of weights in to start the process of conditioning the muscles again so that I can re-integrate lifting back into my routine when I get back to Oz.

really happy to have been able to train 5x in my first week on holiday. heading to Paris later today and hoping I'll be able to find a gym and rower nearby

thanks. have worked so hard to build my conditioning and big goals for the next few months so really keen to keep it going while I'm away and not have to spend much time catching back up to where I was.

will mainly be doing UT2 type rows and keeping the metres in my legs but if I know I can access ergs consistently in France then I'll try to keep up a more normal weekly split there too

have been in Windsor the past few days - they have the most incredible leisure centre here. Better than a David Lloyd type place and would love to have something like this near me

No training today, but wanted to post my step count for the first 11 days of the vacation. Surely an H&F record?

In Paris now and am heading to the nearest gym in the morning. A little worried about how much they’ll charge for a one off visit as the gym looks upmarket but…need to get some metres in and I can see a few C2s on their website

Not bad! Most of my weeks are between 100 and 130k steps. I think I might beat yours soon because my dog walks are becoming longer and longer. I could also cut out cycling to the office, and take him to work twice in a week and I'll be there.

Solid step counts! Looks like more than I get when I am running 70 or 80km per week. Enjoy the hell out of Paris.

Impressive, but I'm pretty sure that river tilt would call that a light week of walking.

That’s a ton of steps for a standard week.

I’ll occasionally get to 100k on a standard week at home but it usually ends up at about 90k. But here I’m not walking my dog (as we left my poor Sonny with house sitters in Aus) or ever ‘going for a walk’, so it’s just all the steps walking around monuments or doing stuff in the cities

Must say I’m having not having to drive and not watching any TV at all. We obvs have TVs in the air bnbs but just never doing it.

my tour around the rowing machines of random European city gyms continues, this time in Paris. I got very lucky - a standard visit is 30 euros...or 65 euros for a week...both of which are very steep. but they had a week's free trial so I can train for free. Can row the next two days and may sneak in for an evening weights session too

Very old C2 and couldn't connect to erg data but the machine was well maintained.

5k r20, 2 mins rest, 5k r22

r 20 was 19:46.4, at 1:58.6

r 22 was 19:35.0 at 1:57.5

edit, have just noticed that this is my largest week ever in terms of metres - 51.4k. nowhere near Monte standards but very happy to have been able to train consistently on my break so far

8 hour drive yesterday and I was on the 'wrong' side of the road for me so ended up being very tiring....very nervous wife sitting on the other side at the front and three annoyingly loud teenagers! Happy to have found another decent gym here in Annecy. It's the 4th of our 5 stops and I've managed to train well at each so far. By reputation, it's tough to find gyms in Rome which is stop 5 but tbh if I don't find something there, it's now only 5 days of not training, which I can sell to myself as a deload/rest week and I don't think I'll have lost much fitness.

sent emails to 4 Rome gyms last night. Got a response from the first one saying that they have rowing machines but I would need to be cleared by a sports medecine specialist before I could train at their gym. classic Italian bs bureaucracy

Impressive vacation consistency; my wife would not be as supportive as yours appears to be on a vacation.

12x1'/1'r sounds pretty rough. I keep saying this, but I'm probably going to mix in some more intense rowing in a few months - likely Saturday since I have an off day on Sundays now.

My wife has complained a few times tbh. But meh. I’m going either early in the morning when the kids aren’t up yet or later in the day when we’ve been out and come back and everyone’s resting

found a gym near me in Rome. Sadly doesn't have an erg but has some cardio equipment.

did 20 min interval on bike, then 20 min interval on eliptical.

Eliptical >>>> bike, so will be doing 40-60mins on that from now on

also did 6 sets of Shoulder Press and Biceps

thanks bro. the trip has been incredible. tbh, I've probably had enough and 3 weeks may have been slightly too long, but it's been brilliant family time, the kids have got on really well and seen/experienced a ton of stuff they never knew existed so it's opened their horizons. And I've been running my business for 18 years and never had more than 1 week away from it outside of Xmas/New Year, so it's been great for me too

re the gym, I'm lucky that the kids and wife all want to have a few hours at home each day too, so it hasn't been too disruptive to head out to train. And it's really helped me enjoy the trip. I'm not body dysmorphic or anything but being able to exercise each day makes me feel better about the eating and drinking I'm doing and also gives me the daily endorphin boost I like/need

40 mins on the eliptical and then 15 mins of weights

will repeat my comment from the other day....you can get a good conditioning workout on the eliptical. Getting off at the end it felt like I'd done a 40min 10k.

last full day in Rome today and heading to the Colosseum.
