You dont have to use a big arch if benching the most weight possible is not a goal. But of easily accessible resources, SYTYCB the best thing out there. If you are as lucky as me to find a coach, who's way better at benching than Tate ever was, to lift with on a regular basis, that would be better. But the info in the Tate benching videos is very good for teaching good technique that is safe for your shoulders.

Upper back tightness is critical if you want to avoid shoulder injuries. Its not only about tightening your lats, but tightening all the muscles in the middle back and keeping your should blades pulled down (dont shrug up).

yeah, that's a good start, but if you can touch an empty bar to your chest, you're probably not keeping your back tight enough. Think about actively pulling the bar to your chest. It will be difficult and feel uncomfortable if you're doing it right.
