I took heaps but just deleted them. I'll get some next time. I think my big mistake is my hips rising too early compared to my shoulders/chest so my back angle becomes more horizontal after the start of the lift. That shouldn't be happening, right?
.
Likely puts the bar out away from you...which is obv never good.
I went all in when I started and was doing 4-6 sessions a week. After I guess two months I started sparring. It took me a number (5-10? Can't really remember) of sparring sessions to get used to simple sh*t like competently defending. After that it is just an iterative process of identifying something (either a flaw or a strength) and working on it in and outside of the ring. I had my first fight towards the end of my first year of training and I think that amount of time is fairly standard. I had my second one probably six months later. After that one I've really felt much more "aware" and confident. Like I feel much better about identifying things I'm doing wrong (obviously a coach is invaluable for that too) and I'm much more composed in sparring.
Short answer: 3 months. 9 months. 18 months ...I'll keep you posted when I have my next epiphany
F*cking start of summer and I get a cold. This is bullsh*t. I have a feeling this happened to me last summer too...
Felt kind of sh*t all day yesterday. Work up in the middle of the night congested and sore throat. Fortunately I'm dog sitting for a friend with kids, so she has a well stocked drug box. Took a handful of paracetamol, ibuprofen and some super lozenge and went back to bed and slept pretty well.
Felt slightly better this morning, went on a another drug raid and found the pseudoephedrine this time (which is kind of hard to get in Australia lolz). 60mg of that and some coffee. Time to hit the gym!
skwaat: 5x104, 3x118, 4x132
press: 5x56, 3x63, 1x70
Pullup, incline db press, face pull
Still getting skull f*cked by this sinus congestion. F*ck me.
Still, that is the heaviest skwaat I have done in quite some time. Maybe two years. 300lbs in sight.
That's also the heaviest press I've done in forever. So that's nice. I think my all time press is something like 75kg, so I'm getting within reach of that too.
That's actually not bad at all for never snatching if you ask me. Angles look pretty decent.
I feel the biggest leak is a lack of explosion, there's no forceful triple extension. You're going through the movement but it doesn't really pop. I would focus on that first. You could do a complex doing a 2+1 snatch pull followed by a full snatch, and really focus on thrusting all your **** so the bar will fly up without you pulling it. Start sloooowww from the floor and accelerate as you go up and focus on mid foot.
Not that I know anything, though. So maybe don't listen to me.
Cheers, bro. Yeah, it feels like that when I'm doing it. Just like it's "flowing" up rather than "popping" up.
One thing I notice (probably just because it's easy to see) is how I don't get much ankle extension. Sometimes I'm conscious of this and try to force it and everything does feel a bit faster, but then it feels a bit like the bar gets way out in front at the top. But yes, I think that's all just a symptom of the general lack of explosiveness. Snatch high pull and the like is probably a good idea.
ftr, I've not quite "never" snatched. I tend to visit it every year or so along with my clean. I think my all times are 80kg snatch and 110kg clean.
lolz. I mean I do them for a few months once a year or so. I usually stop because I get hurt (doing other things) or just don't have the time to work in it. I think it was 80. Maybe it was only 70. I'll see if I can find a vid.
I find with my clean I can get up to say 90-95kg pretty easily, then I have to grind small increments after than. With my snatch it's like 60kg is pretty easy, then it's a grind.
Haha. Looks like my best clean vids from last year are 90kg and 95kg and no snatch vids for ages and the highest snatch vid I can find was 50kg. So let's say I'm a lying sack of sh*t and that is my all time pr and syn can take the gun out of his mouth.
Bench is k. 3x98 sets me up fine for a shot at my 1-3 reps at 100kg in 2-3 weeks.
Rounded my deadlift up from 139 to three metric (non weasel)plates.
Felt aight. Felt a bit like I was getting my weight too far forward, although it doesn't seem to show on the video. I get the feeling that without straps that would have been a bigger problem. Need to work on more speed too, but overall happy for 5x three plates.
