Plz help me find an apartment in Hamburg! $$ Plz help me find an apartment in Hamburg! $$

Hi,

My girlfriend and I are moving to Hamburg in September, and we are having trouble finding an apartment to rent. We do not know German ( at all ) which is making pretty tough to find a place online. She will be attending Bucerius during this time, so we are trying to find a place near there if at all possible.

Are there any fellow Germans out there who could help us out? ( I'm part German, so I'm practically like a brother ) If someone could help me find an apartment in Hamburg, near Bucerius, for two people, and preferably furnished, and we end up choosing the apartment, I would be happy to give them $50 on stars or full tilt. We will be coming over from the States, so having a furnished apartment would be preferable.

Oh, and we will be there from Sept 1st to Dec. 30th. If anybody has any questions please pm me, or just post in the thread and I'll be checking up as often as I can.

Thanks!

hmm, that didn't really work, plus I have no idea what "wohnen auf zeit" means. Is 'Harburg" the same thing as "Hamburg"?

Harburg is a suburb of Hamburg, south of the river Elbe.

As you want to attend Bucerius I suggest a closer suburb would be suitable. Like St. Pauli, Altona or Eimbüttel.

oh ok, thanks. I'm having a hard time navigating these websites. I'm really looking for someone to find specific apartments/flats for rent during the dates I listed. And maybe if they could translate the specs on the apartment that would be fantastic.

I was looking at an apartment in Winterhude...is that a nice area? i might not act on it because it's through craigslist, and i'm somewhat wary of getting scammed.

I appreciate all of the help thus far, thanks guys.

Winterhude is a very nice area (for Hamburg).

It´s not easy to get an appartment in the city, and more details would be interesting, like how many rooms, what rent you could afford etc.

www.immobilienscout24.de is probably the biggest site in germany to search for an apartment or a house.

you can use this link to look for apartments to rent: http://www.immobilienscout24.de/de/f...iete/index.jsp

just insert hamburg or a suburb.

maybe you can find interesting apartments just from the photos. you should as well get the prize and the size of it even w/o understanding german.

feel free to post here in case you need some translations or whatever.

well, I don't think we want to spend more than 700 Euros a month on an apartment. and we would prefer something around 500 euros/month if possible.

for size, we only need one bed/bedroom. and since we are looking for furnished apartments, we would like it to have a double bed, or at least a bed big enough for two people.

for the size of the whole apartment...I would say the bigger the better as long as it is in our price range.

after i talk to my girlfriend tonight i'll update with better/more details.

thanks again guys

Ok so one more question: is it an option to share a community appartment with someone? Since you need it furnitured, this would be much easier to find and also save you a *alot* of money.

I´ll be at the Uni today and will have a look at the black boards.

Hey kriz, "wohnen auf zeit" means something like "rent for limited time". You could use this criteria to limit the results of your search @ immobilienscout24.de.

With Bucerius you mean the law school and not the "art forum", right? Then the best suburbs for you to look for an apartment are definitly St. Pauli, Altona, Eimsbüttel (maybe + Hoheluft-West/-Ost if payable) and maybe St. Georg; all good places to live for young people, not too expensive, many students and so on (Ottensen and west of it are too expensive, Stellingen and Lokstedt are ugly, Rotherbaum is too expensive, and in the south it's downtown).
Furnished apartments are not standard in Hamburg in general, but maybe you will find apartments like that with "wohnen auf zeit" checked ^^.
Your pricing is the bottom line for an apartment in Hamburg as the rent is expencive here. Be aware that besides the rent you normally have to pay extra for electricity, phone / internet and so on.
I don't think you'll find anyone here to search an apartment for you as it costs lots of time (i don't have it) but if you have questions or need translations just ask here.

sry. no help here. all i can say is that youre screwed.

700 or less close to bucerius does not compute.

however my roomates girlfriend attends bucerius. i heard they have quite a strong "awesome people network" (just kidding). so tell your gf to contact someone from bucerius cause i heard they do stuff like students that finish and leave town give their rent contract to new bucerians. not really sure how and what and all. but just tell her to ask bucerius people. theyre probably of more help than us since hamburg RE market is a bitch. youre really screwed unless you know people, are able to pay horrendous rents or dont care about where you live. there are defenitily nice and also cheap areas but there arent many. walking or bike riding distance to buscerius is pretty tough to find something id say.

also german RE owners are huge nits and wont ever give you an appartement unless youre parents are rich and give them some kind of secuities (or you have a job with a nice abd steady income) because german renting laws give the people living in a place for rent wayyyy too many rights. therefore the guys renting out an appartement are super nitty and scared of getting screwed.

most importantly you will compete with about 100 couples with steady jobs in their late twenties and thirties if you ever try to apply for a place in one of the nicer parts.

srsly ask bucerius to help you guys out. its your best option by far imo.

As i know it will be also hard to find a furnished Flat, I never saw in Germany a furnished Flat

Its pretty though to find that , as its very uncommon, and 500 EUR in Hamburg is not that much, but u shld find a site where its also in english, or search or an agent in Hamburg and call him , as he wld like to help you..as he cost also a lot of mony, as i remember 1,5 rent for the agent only

Sry Guy , hamburg is one of the most expensivest places in germany
