Re: Whisky

I always find rye a little too spicy for drinking neat (well over ice for me) but I love it in an Old Fashioned.

I really like Sazerac Rye for an inexpensive intro into ryes ( if you can find it ). Rittenhouse Rye also quite good for a low cost rye, although may be a bit too much if you are not used to the spiciness of ryes, beginners may want to use it in cocktails.

Interesting. Not really a fan of it at all and plan to use it exclusively for Old Fashioneds and other cocktails. Admittedly, I'm pretty much a beginner.

Re: Whisky

Nice collection! I'm going to pick up some Michters when I start watching season 5 of Billions. They were always drinking it in s4.

Iíd definitely take that Russell Reserve single barrel rye over Blantonís. I gifted my last bottle to my Russian coworker and only keep the straight from barrel around the house these days that I pick up in France.

Like for instance I found J.W. Dant bottled in bond in a plastic 1.75L jug today and was more excited than if I found a bottle of Weller 12. Iíve been looking for years and itís $16 for a handle. Solid stuff.

Currently enjoying a couple of my favs with a cigar on a humid Texas night.

I really enjoy Michters, have a case ( 3 bottles ) of the 10 yr old bourbon and Toasted Barrel on order. I doubt I will ever do the 20 or 25 year old, just can't justify spending that kind of money.

Looks like we at least have similar tastes in cigars, as Hemingway's are probably my favorite.

Regular Buffalo Trace is my normal everyday drink. Have been accumulating more of the higher end stuff because I buy it whenever it is available here (because it rarely is, and goes quick), and because of the way things have been, I haven't had anyone over to share it in quite some time.

Yeah Iím somewhat of an oddball I hate barrel finishes and have become not a big fan of stuff like Blantonís. I really think anyone thatís a bourbon fan should give the Bottled In Bond bottom shelf a try. That or any bottom shelf straight bourbon thatís above 86 proof.

The Hemingway was good but I have some Oliva Masters Blend 3 that one of the big online sites sells for $3.50 a pop that I enjoy more.

Re: Whisky

Oh I decanted most of this plastic handle of JW Dant into some empty bottles I had lying around and used it to deglaze a skillet of mushrooms and onions on the grill along with some steak. Decided to have a pour with a cigar and wow this is nice. Lots of brown sugar. Kind of reminds of a good store pick of Knob Creek single barrel 120 proof that are usually 10-15 years old. Definitely punches well above itís price range. Itíll be a regular on my shelf going forward.

Re: Whisky

When those calls never end. Pulled out some Weller 12 year old. The chocolate and oak goes well with a cigar. Pretty good for under $40.
