My thoughts completely on the Signet. I bought my first bottle of it about a year and a half ago. All I had was a simple pour into my glencairn glass. Yeah...I decided that my next pour would be if I got engaged/had kids/or something totally awesome in life. Otherwise I would just be drinking that stuff every night. Itís pretty incredible stuff.

Hell no! Life is too short, drink it!

I used to have a similar mindset, until someone said to me "that makes no sense at all, suppose you meet an amazing chick, and you have the greatest sex of your life ever, are you going to stop doing it with her and just do it on special occasions?"

Suppose you never get engaged, never have kids or get hit by a bus, then some prick cleaning your house out is going to be gulping down your scotch amazed there's so much left in the bottle. At $200 a bottle (admittedly expensive for nas scotch) its not too uncomfortable to have some once a week or so. I literally mumbled "oh my god" when I had sample in the store, and couldnt wait the entire flight to vegas to crack it open. And right now, its probably less then 20 ft from you, sitting in the bottle, calling softly to you... go open it, have a cheeky measure...

Nice Iím excited about the Amrut which Iíd been really trying to try and the BenRiach 21yr.

The Michterís seems out of place. Also you know what Amrut?

Re: Whisky

yes, its the basic Amrut single malt.

The Amrut Fusion seems to be higher rated, but a friend has it and considers it a touch too peaty so I thought I'd start with basics. I've had an Amrut and another indian whisky Paul John while I was in india and wasnt particularly impressed, so I'm interested to see how things have progressed given their ratings.

Michters I first had in an old fashioned which I thought worked well, I have a bottle in the states, though I dont remember it. The sour mash won whisky of the year on the site where I order my whisky from (in the uk) so I thought it would be worth a look hopefully it will have a deeper flavour letting it be drunk by itself.

I do tend to favour japanese, so loaded up a little more, because in december I have a tour booked at the Yamazaki distillery (Yamazaki 25 at $27 a pour!!) and wanted to remind myself of things.

Re: Whisky

A little quiet here lately, anyway, Yamazaki tour completed. Fairly mundane, but for $10 cant complain with a few free samples in a tasting at the end.

However the star is the bar at the end, where I had a Hibiki 30, Yamazaki 25 and a Hakushu 25. Didnt like the hakushu at all, the others were 'ok'.

The thing a lot of people forget is that 30 years ago these whiskies were just ok, stick them in a cask for 30 years, and you have a 30 year old ok whisky. Certainly not worth the $6k+ a bottle goes for now.

Having said that, I did pick up a bottle of Hibiki 21 at Narita airport duty free on the way out of the country....

Re: Whisky

It's the end of the world bros, what did everyone stock up on?

I'm poor so all I could swing was a 1.5L Buffalo Trace, Craigellachie 13, and Lag 16. Normally that would last me 2 months, but if I gotta quarantine who knows. 2 weeks tops? The prospect of running dry during a lockdown is most disconcerting.

I think I'm going to make another run soon. With the announcement in Cali, seems like just a matter of time before we get a shelter in place order in NY as well.

I would've sold it a long time before that happened. I can't bring myself to drink anything over ~$200 a bottle, just seems like a waste to me. Drink it and its gone forever

Four roses small batch is by far my favorite. Iím a fan of woodford reserve, makers mark, knob creek ..... however I think four roses small batch is the best in that group. Anyone have recommendations for whiskey in higher price points to try out that are better than the ones stated above?

I also like Jim beam if just trying to booze.

If you like the Four Roses small batch Iíd highly recommend Russell Reserve 10 year small batch. Same proof but 10 year, similar price. Similar profile to the Four Roses. Other options in a similar price range would be Elijah Craig, Evan Williams Single Barrel or Henry McKenna 10yr single barrel if you can find it all from Heaven Hill distillery. Buffalo Trace is another good option.

If you want to try something slightly higher in price try Four Roses single barrel. I prefer the small batch but everyone has different tastes. Donít waste your money on higher priced stuff until you explore the different more affordable options each distillery offers . For instance if you decide you really like Jim Beam and Knob Creek than try Bakers and or Bookerís.

Fellow Four Roses Small Batch fan here. It's my favorite as well. Maker's Mark I tend to buy more commonly just because, dollar for dollar, I find it to be the best value, and being able to get a 1.75 for $45 feels like a steal. I like Buffalo Trace better than Knob Creek, which I like better than Woodford Reserve. I find that bars often price Buffalo Trace as cheaper than everything else I just named, and I choose it when that's the case because it's absolutely in the same ballpark of quality.

At a higher price point, Angel's Envy is pretty great, though I'm not convinced that it's worth the difference in price over Four Roses Small Batch.

I unfortunately can't stomach Jim Beam. Wish I could, for how cheaply you can get it.

Re: Whisky

Four Roses small batch is a fine stock whiskey, I've bought it many times myself. If you're looking for cheap, I mean I don't know what everyone's budget is but I would always stay away from JD or JB... try and upgrade to Buffalo Trace, or something stronger (100 proof) Knob Creek.

I've been on a Woodford Double Oaked kick the past year though. Angel's Envy is fine too, these are going to be in the $50 / bottle price point, but I prefer the Woodford Double Oaked.

Re: Whisky

Wow, Eagle Rare is ~$45 near me. I would daily drink it at that price.

In other news, Gov. Cuomo has deemed liquor stores an "essential" business, so I've stopped panicking. Feel like I owe my Drizly driver a hazard pay sized tip now though.

All good choices here - If you haven't tried it another bourbon I'd recommend to check out is Evan Williams Single Barrel. It's great and IMO a hidden gem. Priced really well too. I think it's $27 at my local total wines.

George Dickel Barrel select is also great. I little more expensive.
