Finally had the opportunity to try this recently (2017). Might have been a mistake because now I need more.

So my girlfriend got me Glenmorangie Spios for Christmas. She did well!

Private edition series that was released this year. Unique in that most scotches are aged in ex bourbon or sherry casks and this one is from a rye. There's definitely a lot better than me at describing smelling and tasting notes, but I'll say it has a very buttery vanilla smell and taste with some nice spice. Ok that's a pretty weak description, but I would definitely recommend!

I can’t believe I haven’t seen this thread before. I hope to add to it soon.

Brag: my local cigar bar is holding a vday event tomorrow....

'A celebration of what everyone *really* loves: good whiskey. Enjoy shot and flight specials of 10, 12, and 15-year aged Pappy Van Winkle from Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery, and pair an official Pappy cigar with it, made with tobacco aged in Pappy Van Winkle whiskey barrels. Boxes of Pappy cigars will be available in retail for a limited time.

We'll also have George T. Stagg from Buffalo Trace Distillery, so celebrate the worst holiday in the best way possible.'

I love where I live!

Has anyone been to the Brandy Library in NYC? A friend took us there last year. They have something like 1,000-2,000 bottles of spirits. They are on floor to ceiling shelves around the interior. Their sommelier’s know every bottle in the place. It was a very cool experience.

I measure every whiskey/liquor bar against Jack Rose.

@devil - compare/contrast Brandy library and Jack rose.

Related - held my company Xmas party in the Jack Rose cellar this year. Complete with hipster bartender and everything. Was great, highly recommend.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it. I’m planning on going back around April for a pre trip to our Europe trip.

Another favorite is the Green Russell in Denver. More of a cool underground cocktail bar than a place with tons of liquor options.

Foo,

Brandy library is more of a lounge (but old school drinking parlor not trendy modern club style) type vibe vs the more traditional bar feel of Jack rose. I don’t know how selections compare, since both are overwhelmingly great. Brandy library more of a lower key chill out with friends or date spot to me vs louder higher energy environment at Jack rose.

theres a bbq place (****ty bbq by atl standards) within walking distance of my house that ALWAYS has Weller Special Reserve for $6 for 2 oz pour. Not bad at all for bar pricing.

American whiskey fans,

Nickel City in Austin has a pretty solid list:

amoeba: I did, and it was pretty good, but I liked the sliders better. Excellent tots too.

stabn: Was staying next door for a week and stopped in a few times. Don't remember exactly, but let's see... Black Maple Hill, Blood Oath, Little Book, WL Weller 12, Stagg Jr, Midwinter Night's Dram. They make very solid cocktails there too.
