Well, Ads, that was my first cask strength try! I was already sold on Laphroaig but had an unsophisticated view of whisky as a whole, so it did the job nicely for me in terms of conversion to the wider church of whisky.

El D - didn't think to compare it to sauternes finish, that makes more sense. I like a port finish myself so maybe it's not as terrifying as I first thought when I read it!

Best,
Pete

Ha, I actually went to a Glenfiddich tasting of the Winter Storm last week in Houston. I really liked it.

anyone hunting BTAC and Pappy?

I dont even try. moving forward I think Im just going to buy store picks and anything else interesting that pops up. the chase and the investment in becoming buddy buddy with owners just ain't worth it IMO.

How long is it worth standing in line for a place that is giving them out first come, first serve? (Limit one bottle.)

an hour or two, for me. I'd never camp out all night for a bottle of BTAC or Pappy. Depends on how much they're marking it up, too.

Four roses fans,

FYI, some locations of Costco have the Four Roses Private Select Single Barrel (barrel proof) in stock for $45.

This has been $65-70 at all the liquor stores I've seen it at. I've had a few different recipes and enjoyed them all.

Also, in most states, you don't need a Costco membership to buy alcohol there.

I have 7 bottles of this stuff, but only 1 of batch b517. It's fantastic, I grab the bottle anytime I see one on the shelf. Which, unfortunately probably won't be anymore.

I tried it at a bar in Texas, never seen it on the shelf anywhere. I was impressed. Maybe not whiskey of the year impressed, but it was good.

It took me awhile to figure this out but you can't go wrong with any of the Heaven Hill products. Everything is solid value for the quality of taste and price, plus a great variety of offerings. I'm a 100% loyal customer to them moving forward.

The other day I was going to order a bottle of Glengoyne 25 and found out that K&L no longer distributes distilled spirits to my State

ETA: Kavalan Solist prices in the US are crazy. Buy from this site instead if you have the patience to wait a couple of weeks for delivery: https://www.whiskysite.nl/en/kavalan...-cask-578.html

El T,

have you ever had any issues with bottles getting held up/delayed due to unpaid tax?

Never. Bottles from the Netherlands sent via regular mail usually stay in customs for about a week (if you trust the USPS tracking messages) but I've never had an issue with them being released.

Has this happened to you?

$55 for Blanton's
$35 Weller's 12
$45 Rock Hill Farms
$250 Pappy 23

You'll also need to arrange to get them to me in Texas. I guess I can help you get rid of the stuff. To be honest not really interested in the Blanton's or Weller. Also the Pappy 23 is way over oaked do you have the 15 or 20?

It's the 23 that's about retail and taxes.

LAP sorry I don't really do the secondary, drink those bourbons. If your really interested I might trade a W12 for your RHF but I hate dealing with shipping.
