Whoa. You may want to look into simple syrup!

Yeah, my girlfriend and I have been thinking about giving it a try to make simple syrup. But it's not usually an issue to just pre-dissolve the sugar cube. And I like the feel of muddling that cube!

Just another Friday afternoon at my office double-fisting Caol Ila and Lagavulin—with a beer chaser.

It's $210CAD here (uig is roughly $175 for reference). Worth it? I'd imagine in US it's less than $100. El D have you had it? I know you're a big Ardbeg fan.

Goose,

At my local store, uig is $56 and dark cove is $110. Reviews I read were positive, but made it sound pretty similar to the uig. Didn't inspire me to grab a bottle. In general I've found the committee releases to be a mixed bag and not usually worth the premium IMO.

Congrats to both! I'd be very happy celebrating with Judges pick but I know you are not a fan, Foo. What did you decide?

Found these beauties on the shelf for $49 each traveling through NC today. This stuff is really fantastic if you can find it!

A client gave me this 19 y.o. Abelour that was independently bottled by Berry's in 1994. I understand that this is a bit unusual in that Aberlour doesn't do that very often. Enjoyed a taste at the end of the day on Friday after a bit of a brutal work week. The light and delicate 57.9% single malt swiftly soothed and soon the week's woes were swept away.

Looking for a Scotch to split with some good friends during our annual Christmas game this year. Price wise thinking between $150-400 for one really nice bottle or two good bottles. This group is huge on Highland Park 18, Old Pultney 21, and Bunnahabhain 18. My personal tastes fall to Talisker 18, Lagavulin 16 and Laphroaig 18.

Edit for I know it's early, but if I need to order something I want to make sure it arrives in time.

Jz,

So many options...

Seems like a good opportunity to buy this for $300: http://m.klwines.com/p/i?i=1271788

And maybe augment it with a peat monster if you want - they have a bunch of excellent options in the $100-200 range.

Looks like it is going to be hard to get one bottle for both groups if you like the Islay's.

I have been wanting to try this lately:

Ah, I have a friend from Edinburgh who worked in the whisky centre and this is her go-to dram. Aces. I'm ok with it, but it's not on my death row drams.

Best,
Pete

as ive gotten older it seems if i have a hard drink it will always be a good scotch. but its very limited where i hang out to find much in the way of diversity. although i like it glen livet is top shelf in most places. but occasionally i find something exceptional when traveling.
still glen livet is good especially when i can find their 18 year old stuff. it is about the oldest distillery of scotch so it has the history behind it but not quite the mystery.
