Euro (€) is very close to the dollar right now. 1€ = $1.06 !
Will buy my 12th bottle today, halfway to the goal of 24 whiskies. My little whisky corner will comfortably contain that amount, planning to have them all in active use. When one of them later on is about to be emptied I will post my impression, comparing it with the "official" tasting notes, and have another one. Or three like you El_Timon, if ordering online, for saving shipping costs.
Haven't decided when to start ordering online, will probably be on a hunch. It will happen from necessity if nothing else when the single malts and bourbons of the local store are went through. Haven't counted, but think they are below 50.
Here's something kinda crazy. American brandy aged mainly in ex-Bourbon casks. This stuff is great. It tastes like either a really bourbon-y brandy, or a really fruity bourbon. Sorta close in flavor profile to the Smooth Ambler bourbons. This version packs a punch at 124 proof, but it's very smooth and drinkable. Very happy with this bottle.
The GF and I are first in line for Pappy and BTAC release tomorrow at 9 AM. Either getting two 23s or a 23 and 20. They don't announce their allocation. Last year first two got in line 24 hours in advance. Hoping to trade for multiple BTAC bottles.
I can't try it yet since I'm on medicine that prevents me from drinking alcohol. The author of the Whisky Bible is pretty much gospel around whisky enthusiasts though, plus it's only $25.
You can look up reviews on youtube as well
edit:
lol reviewers on Amazon seem to think he's a sell out now. I guess I can't be too surprised

I assume this is at green's? thats a lot of time spent in a store parking lot when there is football on and beds to sleep in. It seemed like the BTAC line was a separate one that isn't available when you get your pappy if so.
Actually sitting here adding water for the first time. Got Ballechin #6 Bourbon Cask (by Edradour). First impression is disappointment with the diluted strength, even if I added quite a little. But I know it will be necessary to dilute for getting all the nuances. Goal is gradually getting it down to even 20% (water making up half of it!)
Edit: wow, it's really getting cloudy, unchillfiltered as it is
So is that crown royal rye actually any good? Anyone tried it?
It's been tough to find up here, but I came across a stash yesterday. Bought 5 bottles, 1 for myself the others for gifts. I had a snifter last night and wasn't blown away. It's less complex than a good single malt, but quite smooth with a bit of a spicy taste to it. I rather enjoyed it, but I think best whiskey of the year is a stretch.

Yeah Green's on Ponce. I got the only 23 and one of two 20s. $520 out the door. We read, watched movies, drank some good beer and whiskey. I'm not a sports fan. We had cots, sleeping bags, pillows, eye masks, ear plugs... actually got a good nights sleep. Totally worth it.
hi all, I don't usually have access to High West stuff where I live, but may get a chance to purchase some soon. I have only tried the Rendezvous (love it, my favourite sipping rye) and the American Prarie Reserve (was just meh on it).
of the Double Rye and Son of Bourye, are either worth picking up (~$70ish)? I am looking for whiskeys for sipping and not mixing (especially at that price).
also there is one from High West that I recall being rare and worth seeking out. Is that the 21?
I'd personally get another rendezvous before either the double rye or bourye.
Re: rare bottles.
HW did a small release of 16 and 21 year ryes that were labelled, "very rare" a while back and, sure enough, they're rare and expensive. Pretty much 0 chance you find any of the original 16 or 21 randomly sitting around somewhere.
That said, pretty sure they just did another release of one or both of these ryes which, while unlikely, you might find. If you do come across, prolly worth trying. I've not had the second batch, but both the 16 and 21 from the first batch were delicious.

Nice haul. What's the value of those two bottles in the secondary market? Are you planning on selling or keeping them?

Seems to be about $1500-1600 for 23 and $900-1000 for 20 according to bottle blue book. I would never sell for cash. I'd like to trade the 23 for some combination of 15 year, George T. Stagg and William Laurie Weller.
