Re: Whisky

I recently received a Lagavulin 16 for my birthday and I have to say that is one great drink.

What do people think of Old Pulteney? Had some a couple of weeks ago and it was quite nice.

I really enjoy the Old Pulteney 12 as an affordable, every day kind of dram; I can get it at a local for $35

I'm not a big peatbomb guy, though, so others may differ

Todays haul from tw they kept the Old Weller and the single barrel in the back. Good thing I talked to the manager last week and he remembered me.

Re: Whisky

I got a bottle of EH Taylor Single Barrel as well while picking up a bottle of IW Harper. I have a feeling I should've bought some islays instead but those bourbon expressions are getting a lot of buzz, so I thought it was worth checking out. Caol Ila 12 and Bowmore 12 aren't going anywhere I guess

Lag 16 was my favorite for a long time. I prefer Oban now

Old Pulteney is nice and pretty affordable

Oban is really good but kind of pricey. Bowmore is very strong as well.

Re: Whisky

no the 12 year.

I know its a relatively inexpensive bottle when paying retail, but you can never get it as it doesn't even hit the shelves by me, as allocations are so low.

Still a good deal for an increasingly tough to find solid, everyday pour.

Re: Whisky

Folken!

Apologies for my muteness. Am finishing off my masters thesis and am eyeballs deep in that. I actually have a bunch of whisky society visits to post and all, but will drip those in autumn/winter after my MSc is all done and dusted.

Important news though, and worthy of stopping study for a day - it's whisky fringe 2015 time!

Programme here:
http://cts.vresp.com/c/?RoyalMileWhi...dca/d2a838feae

Hope that worked...doing this on my phone.

I go Saturday, let me know your 'must pours' on this list so I fail not in trying them! Can't do em all but will try to do 50-60 odd! Thanks in advance for your sage advice.

Best,
Pete

Re: Whisky

Good man! Post #2903, the glengoyne 25. It was good but not 250/btl.

Thanks for the list. Have had some before I reckon, will crosscheck with dramtracker, but remember the Balblair 1990 as one of my favourites from last year.

Keep em coming!

Best,
Pete

Re: Whisky

Pete,

I mainly just aim for the old/expensive stuff at these things nowadays.

Thank goodness we don't have these with whiskey available for purchase at the event.

Re: Whisky

El D,

I will likely do similar with some other forays. Have definitely had eg the glenglassaugh 30 before, but will retry to see how my notes change as I get older and drink more whisky.

As for purchasing at the event? Yeah, sheesh, those Scots are made of sterner stuff than I. Frightening!

Best,
Pete

I'll give it a go. Lagavulin 16 is too sweet and syrupy for my usual islay preference. But at these events, best place as I can bang it in a spitoon and move on.

Have longlisted 78 to try! Will pass on my notes, if I live to tell the tale!

Best,
Pete

Re: Whisky

Hi manndl,

For what it's worth I have a Masters but it's the Scottish system, so a 4 year undergrad which gives an MA(Honours) rather than a BA(Hons). So it's not a postgraduate masters, which is a 1-year one here - different to the 3+2 common in the rest of the UK and Europe.

Go figure!

I'll definitely hit up the more expensive ones. As for that, the traditional *one dram only* "half-time orange" is the tough choice. Picture of today's offerings here: what would people recommend? It may change slightly tomorrow when I go. At the moment the ones which jump out are:

Glenglassaugh port
Glenfarclas 519
Mortlach 18

But man, there's some choices there. I may try and 'pool' my ticket with another to try the Glenglassaugh and the Mortlachs. I am a Mortlach fan.

Best,
Pete

Re: Whisky

Although very cheap, I think the Glenfiddich 12 & 15 are amazing. Very smooth.

Blue label is also very good imo. A bit pricier though.
