The glengoyne cask strength and the 21 are nice sherry bombs.

idk if any of the followers of this thread are in Melbourne for Aussie Millions, but if so I strongly recommend you take yourselves to Whisky & Alement in the CBD; the range (~500 whiskys) and prices are amazing.

it was a good month so i treated myself, i have a feeling Masters of Malt is going to be a problem:

The two BenRiach's are great, the 15 has a lot of character for the price, the 18 is good, but a little oaky for me, would rather have the 15 moving forward.

Havent cracked the glengoyne or the glenfarclas yet.

That's a nice sherried haul right there. I have those two Benriachs in the samples order I'm building and may end up dropping the 18yo to try a different whisky.

El T,

i saw that list and got excited, from what i have had i really like that distillery.

I think the 18 is definitely worth a sample, and would love to hear another opinion. Just from the first try i had, i would have a hard time paying double for the 18 over the 15.

Bighurt, if I end up getting both we should write tasting notes in spoilers and see how they compare. It would be interesting to see two sherry heads opinions without biases (although I already have a bit of a bias, but still).

ET, that would be fun, although you cant expect my notes to be as professional as yours.

I'm down to swap, i can make a list this weekend of the inventory.

How do you send the samples across? Where can you get small mason jars?

Has anyone tried The Peat Monster and/or Big Peat? I've been intrigued by those for a while.

Also, KL has a 30 yo 1983 Caol Ila for $280. Is it just me or is that a massive steal?

Tens,

I found big peat to be just a little ott, peaty but not pleasantly so, not good quality whisky either. A disappointment. Agree I'd drop 300 bucks on that caol ila, no doubt.

Hurt,
When manndl was so kind as to send a bunch of samples to me he used eye dropper bottles, which worked really excellently, I feel.

Which reminds me, I actually need to grow my bottle stock so i can reciprocate... My limited range just now is:

Blantons single barrel
Sazerac Rye (standard)
Bruichladdich unpeated
Arran calvados finish
Talisker storm (not a fan)

And a bunch of lesser bourbons/whiskies anyone can get like Talisker 10, buffalo trace, etc.

The cocktail bar isn't half bad. But the whisky range is poor...

Best,
Pete

I'm interested in the Glendronach 18/21.

El T, I'm most interested in Glengoyne cask strength and springbank Fino cask......I didn't know that a springbank fino cask whiskey existed and if I did know that I would have given someone my money for sure.

Works for me! We can exchange details by PM.

That springbank is a bit of a rarity, found it at a local liquor store.

TBH, PM sent.

I was going to order the Benriach 15 and 18 but if we can swap those that would be better. Glenfarclas 25 is also of my interest. And the Pappy and GTS too, if you are willing to part with a couple of ounces of those.

It certainly would. Manndl was kind enough to ship from within the EU. I imagine we might fall foul of customs as well as sky high shipping charges crossing continents!

Best,
Pete

Tens,

No reason to buy Peat Monster over any similarly priced peaty single malt.

0/2 huh, oh well I'm glad I asked you guys lol. I guess the money is better spent towards the Caol Ila

Last weekend I picked up the pure Kentucky and today the old bardstown. Kentucky has a nice spice and smoothness for 107 proof there is very little burn. The bardstown is 10 year vs 12. The old Kentucky is darker in color made from sour mash. The nose is sharp much stronger than 101 proof. Flavor is mild at first mellow bourbon followed by a light alcohol burn finish is warm cinnamon.
Anyways my first attempt at a tasting note thought both of there were worth mention. Paid $36 for ob at Tw and $34 for pk at bevmo
