Had my 40th birthday last week, and the manager at a restaurant been a regular at for six years brought over a four-finger pour of Macallan 18 on the house. I'd never had it before, as I've focused mainly on bourbons. It went down surprisingly smooth, particularly in comparison to the Macallan 12 that he brought out a taste.

Blanton's pricing is ridiculous in L.A. right now. Wanted to get someone a bottle for a housewarming gift, and it seems only three stores in the greater L.A. area had it in stock. Paid $99 for a bottle, about $35 more than the last bottle I bought about a year and a half ago.

so i went to total wine today to get a bottle of Lag and there were 2 bottles of Angel's Envy Cask Strength just sitting on the shelf. They wouldn't let me buy both so there is one left, for now......

Hey guys I have an extra bottle of pappy 20 I’m going to attempt to sell. I’ve looked into it a bit but don’t like the idea of mailing it off to a company then waiting on a check after their approval. What’s the best route to go about doing this? I would prefer to do a local sale. I did find a few people “looking” on Craigslist but their offers were pretty laughable. Like I’m gonna sell you at retail what a local liquor store would be super lucky to get ahold of. One guy did say my offer was 1200 too high so maybe I’m wrong? I’m not sure. I figured 1700-2k is top but doable. Not to mention this should continue Rising for a true collector every year. Any help appreciated

gm,

You've got some pretty good coverage there, lots of good stuff. Only things that jump out that you should really try are Laphroaig and Caol Ila.

I agree with Boston's recs except for the Caribbean Cask, I just don't think that rum finish is very good, but perhaps it's just my personal taste.

I'd recommend trying some of the other Ardbegs, though Uig is perhaps my favorite, it's really great.

One thing I really enjoy is either sherried highland scotches with a peat finish or peaty islay scotches with a sherry/port/sauternes/etc finish. Be on the lookout for those, which are often from independent bottlers.

Where are you located? Do you have some good local liquor stores?

I think you could get $2k. The only liquor store I know that carries it locally is asking $3k.

Yeah I figured I should be able to as well. The price should only continue going up it seems. Guess the best plan is to just hold out until the right buyer comes along.

Thanks El Diablo. I live in the Atlanta suburbs. There were 3 or so liquor stores within 10 minutes in my area that made up my collection. I haven't seen any independent bottlers yet, and you mentioning the sherry/peat, peat/sherry makes me jealous because that mixture sounds fantastic.

I'm pretty sure I had Laphroaig way back in the day, so I'll need to look into Caol Ila.

Yes Ardbeg Uigeadail is pretty hard to beat. That's kind of what I think about most of the whiskeys in my collection, so I was making sure I wasn't missing any of the standard top 20 or anything.

easiest way I've seen big bottles like this move is through a razzle (raffle) in local bourbon facebook groups.

My personal favorite is Knob Creek, it's just everything I want out of a bourbon. However, if I have money to spend and want something extra nice Willett Single Barrel is my favorite "special occasion" whiskey.

Knob creek is great consistent value. I like the new rye cask strength too

Hey whiskey thread, I've been on long hiatus, but rainy Sunday without kids and procrastinating to keep from doing work I don't wanna, so...to the internet!

Pretty psyched for this recent store find.

I created a KY Bourbon Trail thread in the travel forum, if anyone wants to get that discussion going

Yeah real loss, he knew the industry arguably better than anyone. Had a huge impact on the rye comeback and craft distilling. Not a craft guy but glad rye has become so popular.

Had a chance to buy one BTAC bottle and went with Thomas H Handy Rye over Pappy 20 or 23. My reasoning was that I'm more likely to actually drink this bottle instead of trying to sell it.

Any, but only one bottle. I think most of them were available at the time I went to buy online.
