The Rebel Yell 10yr Single Barrel is a totally different animal. Comparing them is like comparing Benchmark whiskey to something like Eagle Rare 17. The link you posted does seem pretty interesting and worth trying. However I think that’s still like 4 year whiskey vs. 10yr.

Yes $50 should be right. I think paying up to $70 is ok. I paid $45 for most of mine and up to $55. Actually bought one from a buddy for $20, he had a pour and didn’t like it.

Not all of it. We hit Woodford & Maker's Mark on the way home from vacation in October. We were pressed for time and chose those two based upon the recommendations of friends who had done the trail the year before. We enjoyed both. After one distillery tour, the second had a lot of repetitive stuff, but it was interesting to note the differences. The difference in histories was also interesting.

The drives past the huge horse farms getting to them were almost worth the trip by themselves. Beautiful. I would like to go back with more time to visit the ones we missed. The distilleries are pretty spread out, but you could probably do two in a day with adequate planning.

Side effect: Those stops increased my subsequent consumption (and enjoyment) of bourbon.

Was gifted a glass of Laphroaig 32 at a bar last night. Wow, right up there as one of the most beautiful pours I have ever tasted! It's amazing what happens to the peat after a long aging.

Anyone aware of any Eagle-related whiskeys (name, label, anything)? I have a SB whiskey bet with a friend whose a Pats fan. ~$100 bottle to the winner.

Eagle Rare - the standard version is about $30 a bottle but it is very good stuff. Especially if you can find the probably sold out store picks. But the regular stuff is probably easy to find

BTAC eagle rare is way harder to find and will set you back much more than $100 unless you are lucky AF

Yeah, Eagle Rare was basically all I found. The 10 year is available near me for ~$80, which isn't a bad option.

Eagle Rare 10 has always seemed a bit harsh to me, hard to drink neat, but fine for an Old Fashioned. The Eagle Rare 17 is really nice.

After i shipped 2 micro Mtts today i rewarded myself with this lovely cask sample i picked up in Scotland last month.

Bought Highland Park Full Volume today. 18 years old, 1st-fill bourbon instead of sherry, and 47% abv all at a very reasonable price of $90. What could go wrong?

Color is diluted tea. Smells of a typical scotch. Taste is spicy fruity oak which quickly gives way to an unpleasant astringent flavor. Dry ashy bitterness eventually comes to fore.

Disappointing and would not recommend. I had an independent bottling of Highland Park that was also bourbon barrel but 13 years old and 56% abv. It was much richer and retained some characteristics of the normal bottling of Highland Park. Unfortunately, it seems pretty hard to find nowadays.

I usually take ralfystuff's youtube reviews on scotches as sort of like the bible for scotches. I finally decided to go cheaper than usual and get Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban since he rated it pretty high for only $50 a bottle. The first night of trying it I walked away pretty disappointed. I almost felt like I was drinking more of a wine than a scotch. Maybe I was just a little more inebriated than I thought and couldn't appreciate it. Had some again last night and it turns out to be really nice stuff, especially at $50. Definitely on the sherry side vs peaty and the wine port cask that it matures in for 2 years shows up for a unique taste. I don't put it in the 90's range, but a solid enough 86-88/100 for me and especially at $50.

Scotch lovers...what is a must add to my current collection? I love sherry and peaty. I haven't tried anything from the lowland region yet.

^ Can highly recommend Dalwhinnie to add to your collection. It’s not particularly exciting but it is super-soft and a delight to drink.

Talisker is another solid choice - well balanced and slightly smokey.

Glendiddich 15. Not actually aged for 15 years - it’s bottled from barrels that never go below half empty so it’s a blend of whiskey of various ages. Rich with good complexity. I’ve never had Glenfiddich 18 so cant make the comparison but I know a few people who prefer the 15 to the 18.

Balvennie Portwood and Caribbean Cask both raise the bar on the standard Doublewood in their own unique ways.

Also multiple people have recommended various bottles from the Glenfarclas range to me but I haven’t tried it so can’t comment.

Going to be in Scotland for about a week. I think we've decided to tour Glenfiddich and Tallisker. Are there any can't miss smaller distillery tours? Preference for non-islay but we're happy to visit someplace awesome regardless of it it matches our taste in drink. Thanks!
