Very interesting match-up!

A client just gave me a bottle of this:

Seems a bit gimmicky… am I likely to be pleased or more of a WTF/GTFO?

Diablo,

Lagavulin vs. Ardberg HU4ROLLZ?

I shamefully admit that Lagavulin has never GRABBED me, while I would happily drink an Ardberg 10 or an Oogy every damn day of my life

I think this is a failing on my part

You have to forgive. Glenfiddich is OK

Wouldn't mind tasting that one myself.

I'm the opposite. I like Ardbergs, but they're not my favorite. Lagavulin is probably my favorite distillery aorn.

ET,

Nice lineup!

I enjoy them all. I'm gonna have to put together an Ardbeg vs lagavulin vs laphroaig showdown to investigate further.

ET, sometimes you have to get a bit drunk, as I think you did. My choice was Jura. Maybe abstinence tomorrow?

I also have a few Laphroaigs, but none are open at the moment. I am in bottle reduction mode so trying to drink what's already open. I am also trying to avoid having several peaty bottles open at the same time, just so they don't lose their taste for being opened for a long time.

I don't know what gave you that impression, but I was not drunk at all yesterday. Had 3 ~1oz pours throughout the day, which is par for the course on a weekend.

1. Mind telling about how many bottles you approx have in total? Just to get the picture of your "problem"

2. Are peaty ones really suffering from being opened? As the scientific artist I am, would appreciate a link, if possible

3. Stopped drinking my Jura a couple of hours ago. Have to be at work in 13 hours...even when having a reason to celebrate (that petty reason not mentioned here) you feel you've had it. Enough is enough

Any special bottles getting opened over the next couple weeks as Christmas approaches?

I might have a bottle of Macallan 18 tucked away in the basement somewhere I am going to search out otherwise I have a Duncan Taylor Rare Auld Cragganmore 18 I have been thinking about opening for several years now. Not sure how special the latter is. I am getting a major urge to seek out a bottle of Balvenie Portwood but they have climbed in price up to $350 around here so I am trying to avoid.

I have 56 bottles of Scotch, 35 open, 21 closed. At one point it was more than 60 bottles with about 50 of them open, so I've been in bottle reduction mode since the summer. I think the only new bottle I've opened is a Highland Park 25 for my birthday.

As for your second question, I don't have a link handy but it's been discussed here before. I have a couple of samples (Lagavulin 12 and 16) I'm saving for a head to head taste once I open a fresh bottle of those.

Any non insanely priced recommendations for someone who typically drinks Makers? Makers, Makers 46 and Jack/Jim Beam (when I'm feeling cheap) are my staples. I want to branch out a bit.

Is Hudson good?

Hudson not worth the money imo.

If you like makers, try Blanton's next, or, if you can find it, Elmer t Lee.

If you want something a little different, but very good, and reasonably priced...smooth ambler old scout bourbon.

Happy birthday, Mann! Is 1969 your birth year? How was the Glen Grant?

4: I echo what foo says about Hudson and his old scout rec.

ET: I have some pretty old 1/2-2/3 full bottles that haven't faded at all. Will be interesting to see your test results. Next time I'm getting uigeadail I'll buy two bottles for a legit long-term test.

Floppy: balvenie 21 port wood is great, but I don't think it's worth 350.

I have a couple of ounces of Lagavulin 12 and 16 that I saved when the bottles were really low, and I'm going to test those against the same bottles when I open them, but that may be a while since those bottles are not high up on my list to open, but I'll post it here when I do.

I gave my girlfriend the Gordon & McPhail Caol Ila Hermitage finish this weekend for her birthday and she was blown away by it. I had a small taste and it was incredible. So many flavors going on between the fruit notes and the peat. Thanks again for the recommendation El Diablo.
