Tasted something last night that was both bizarre and intriguingly good. I typically drink my bourbon neat. My daily go-to favorite is Noah's Mill. Mixed, I make a killer Manhattan using Carpano Antica vermouth (must for Manhattans). Anyway, I had a banana-infused bourbon last night that was incredibly smooth. Ripe bananas were added for about a week, the bourbon was strained out, and with one ice cube the drink was damn good. The banana did not dominate, which surprised me. No joke.

I can see that, actually, because acetone/ketone would be an element some whiskeys/whiskies have which the banana would complement.

Best,
Pete

I tried it last year and really enjoyed it. I think a lot of the criticism is about the packaging and how expensive it is for a 15 year old whisky. It's probably not worth the price (I paid close to $300), but it is still a very nice bottle.

Cool, didn't mean to sound like a dick, was just sharing feedback I received. Fwiw, I recently bought a bottle too, as a gift

Hope you enjoy!

Gotta say that the packaging is what sold me on it. Such a pretty bottle and I'm sure it makes for an awesome gift!

Is that from the samples we exchanged a while ago? Make sure to get a bottle before they disappear, still plenty out there at good prices.

Haven't tried the 15, but read mixed reviews.

Picked up a scotch today, was so excited to try a new one I just cracked it. Smell is good salt smoke and oak. I like this better than laug so far. Drinking it neat and not too intense burn is mild just makes me feel warm inside.

Yeah I think that and Booker's are my favorite whiskies for the $. You miss out on a lot of intricate notes by not adding water though

Got the Laph Cairdeas and Lag 12 today and they are both fantastic. I'm sure they will be staples of mine for years to come.

This is one of my favorite scotches to date; it's a staple in my cabinet. If they priced it at $120 instead of ~$80 (CAD), I wouldn't even blink an eye. I think their marketing team might have dropped the ball on this one.

In other words, second best value bottle on the market atm, after Bowmore 12 for $59 (CAD) . But that's apples and oranges.

Real Canadian Liquor Store in Edmonton often sells this for about $40 CAD on sale. It's mind boggling. I buy every time it goes on sale, worried they will realize how much if costs elsewhere and jack the price.

15% off at the liquor store today resulted in this

Almost forgot the best part....as I'm checking out and they ring up the total I hear my name and low and behold a coworker walks up in line behind me. His jaw dropped as they repeated the total and he is holding his 6 pack of beer. He asked if I was having a party to which I replied no. There was an awkward silence after I responded. I'm pretty sure he deemed me an alcoholic.

Just picked up an Old Forester Birthday 2015. My local store had 6 bottles in the back, none on display. The owner would only let me buy 1.

I'm feeling pretty lucky. I haven't seen any limited release bottles in my area since 2008. I usually have to find stuff on the road.
