Some hot takes.
Moicano will be champ one day based on this fight and the loss vs. Ortega.
Garbrandt would beat TJ if he had a better chin. Or TJ had a worse chin. If he is honest about easily making 125, he should go there.

that was pathetic, scoring that fight for cejudo is an abomination

lol MMA always and forever

BUT DID YOU SEE THE WAY HE LAID ON HIM FOR ~5 MINS? SO BADASS, GIVE THAT MAN A BELT

I thought Cejudo won, but I didn’t think he was going to win on the scorecards. Two of the three rounds be won were really close but I guess he did an ok job at the end of the rounds making it look like he was doing something on the ground.

how?

if you don't want to score the control for cejudo you're basically saying DJ should remain the champ cause of some legkicks.

2-4-5 seemed right to me for Cejudo.

Man, I love how even even though Conor and Khabib are both the elite of the elite, that...

Whichever one of them wins, almost certainly does very convincingly, right? Like one has to dominate.
08-05-2018 , 02:11 PM
I think Khabib's style is going to tax Conor way more than Chad did. Chad was content to stay in guard and throw some elbows. Khabib is going to make Conor exert way more energy on the ground and I think we've seen that Conor isn't working with a great tank.

Yeah I get not enjoying the way Cejudo won, but I don’t see an argument for it being a robbery at all. As far as the validity of scoring wrestling vs striking it is already very unfairly stacked toward striking, especially at the smaller weight classes. Before they imposed artificial confines like rounds, stand ups etc, holding and controlling a fighter on the ground until the they were tired or made a mistake was a very effective way to win regardless of how exciting it is to watch. Cejudo demonstrated he would obviously be able to do that if there was no bell and no stand ups makes it pretty clear in a real fight he’d have killed MM last night before he got killed. Why should MM be the considerded the better fighter?
08-05-2018 , 03:47 PM
Yeah, the scoring rules actually state that wherever more time is spent, on the ground or standing, is where the priority in scoring goes. So someone who’s getting the better of the ground exchanges and losing the majority of the stand up is actually supposed to keep the fight on the ground for the majority of the round in order for the ground fighting to be prioritized over the stand up.

You sure DJ is dying of dehydration before henry? Because thats literally the only way one of them is getting "killed" with henry controlling on the ground
08-05-2018 , 04:22 PM
Voted TJ and Cejudo.

C'mon Vick, Till, and Hunt. I could go 0-3 pretty easy from here.
08-05-2018 , 04:32 PM
Well it happens a lot faster if the ref lets the guy who is better at punching and kicking but can’t get up on his own have free shots because that’s more fun to watch, but if I had to bet who would end up victorious without lol scoring at all it would be Henry last night. It also would have been Nate over Conor both fights. That’s why it doesn’t make sense to complain about the scoring being unfair for strikers. They get more credit for landing than they should when it isn’t doing enough damage as frequently at least as non-damaging top control is awarded weight.

super close

personally i thought DJ won but oh well.

Don't think calling it a robbery is worth discussing. Never liked the "Gotta KO the champ to take the belt" line in boxing and I don't like it in MMA but man...wish Cejudo would've done just a little more.

Scoring more even rounds would make it less likely challengers take the title in de facto draw bouts.

2.2% of fans and 0% of media (and official judges) scored round 2 or 5 even, despite all of them being roughly split on who won each round (~2/1 in favour of Cejudo in each case). If it's that hard to split the fighters, score the round even?

That would probably make these fights a little easier to score and predict the scoring. I just wish fighters would give it their all in the 5th more often. It's so sad to see fighters who are convinced they're up on the scorecards cruise through the 5th and lose. Wonderboy Till is the best example of this I can think of in recent memory.

It should most likely have been a draw, when it's that close usually no belt is lost.
At least DJ will stop with his undefeated marketing and we might get some more interesting match.
I cannot wait for a rematch Cejudo is insufferable, he is talking being triple champ when he barely got his first belt.
08-07-2018 , 11:44 AM
I can't hate on Cejudo too much. Conor changed the rules of the game, and unfortunately you have to play along if you want to get paid and Cejudo's window for making lots of money may be short.
08-07-2018 , 12:36 PM
Cejudo should at least acknowledge there are good fights for him in the division or he’s going to look like a reluctant champion.

If DJ is currently off for a while there aren’t a whole lot of justified title fights since Cejudo recently beat Pettis and Pettis recently beat Benavidez. If both Cejudo and TJ want to fight again soon that might be a good fight to make while Benavidez gets a chance to pick up a quality win.

He claimed he tore his mcl and broke his foot in the post-fight press

If only it was obvious

what was up with Cejudos foot in the first round? Kept rolling it like crazy.
08-07-2018 , 03:32 PM
Benavidez beat him and there is bad blood history to capitalize on.
08-07-2018 , 06:10 PM
I know DJ is persona non grata for the UFC, but that idea that a champ with an 11 defense streak could lose his belt via split decision and not get an immediate rematch is something only Dana White would think is reasonable.
