Herb could have reasonably stopped the fight after ~25s.

Possibly dumb question from an lolcasualfan: every time I watch Jon Jones he spends most of the fight standing with one arm straight out in front of him. Why don't his opponents punch/kick his arm and break it? Is that not legal?

They could get taken down or countered. Not saying it is a bad response, but most of his opponents are just not interested in taking any risks at all for some reason.

Idk how to even compare it to the Robbie fight because idk what herb even saw besides Robbie dropping his hand from an awkward position. There’s a reason you never see anyone getting bulldog choke submissions in the ufc.
honestly i think yr a bit biased given u lost a nice bet.

I was at a bar and everyone there was screaming he's out when that hand fell. The announcers thought/said it. Herb Dean thought it. He asked for a sign to fight back multiple times, didn't get it, he grabbed his arm n didn't feel a reaction. I've seen the screencaps of the thumb up right before the stoppage but I don't think anyone could see it let alone Herb Dean.

I think the stoppage was pretty standard in today's UFC as a ref given all those circumstances, but I err on the side of always letting it go longer on any choke esp if you aren't 100%.

Robbie wasn't getting out of that choke so I don't think the outcome was likely to change.

Incorrect, he pulled his hand away from herb. I could be a bit biased but I’ve also trained a bit of bjj and that choke is bull**** even if it is under the neck and it wasn’t. There’s a reason high level fighters are neve choked out by that choke. Herb should know better.

It was obviously a wrong call in hindsight but let's be real the arm dropping made a huge impression that clouded his judgment.

Think about it this way: Fighters block kicks and punches by purposefully putting their arms in the way to take the hit instead of their head/body, so why would an arm break if outstretched? Breaking a bone is pretty difficult if you're simply striking it. If it happens, it's gonna be a leg, and with somebody that doesn't know how to take a strike.

man it's a good thing we try to hold referees to a higher standard than drunk people in a bar

clearly you are just seeing what you want to see. But the point was clear - everyone thought he was out. Every referee in the UFC likely ends the fight when Herb did based on what happened at the end of the fight - well Marc Goddard might have stood them up lol. Sucks you lost your bet. Next time bet on Funky

Good fight. I think Aldo takes it based on having better cardio than Mendes and also being better at almost everything else. If the make it a full or interim title fight (which would only happen if Holloway confirmed a permanent move to 155) Volkanovski's chances go up but over three Jose should win.

I was trying to place Askren's voice bc it sounded so familiar.

Did it today, his voice is just like Kevin McHale's.

Don't know much about him but hard to imagine he can be worse than Ramzan Kadyrov. You consider all fighters who visited him 'pieces of ****'?

The guy received 55% of votes, you consider 55% of Brazilian voters pieces of ****?

Who knows what made Till support him and how much he knows/believes, unless he has swastika tattooed on his chest and he is promoting Hitler after fights I wouldn't call a fighter 'piece of ****' because of his political choices.
