When Robbies arm goes down Ben's whole body drops with Robbie's like he now had to hold up Robbie's dead weight. Is this indicative that he was out at least for a second?

I thought he was out, so i could forgive a ref for thinking the same in that moment.

Usman looking amazing.

+1 on Cody Garbrandt having some of the worst fighting IQ of an elite fighter. That combined with a mediocre chin is not a good combo.

Definitely in the Smith have no shot camp. I hope he wins because i strongly dislike Jones, but i'd be surprised to see him survive more than 2-3 rounds.

I get it Joe gonna Joe especially on live ufc but jesus saying Woodley might have had the best career at welterweight in the history of the ufc. Yeah lets just forget GSP ever existed

GSP is the greatest of all time. F all that Woodley talk and I'm not just saying at welterweight.
Johnny Walker was fun to watch earlier. Give him OSP or Anthony Smith then a title fight.

Title fights were pure AIDS. Nothing more brutal that a fighter in championship fight that shows up just trying to survive rather than to win.

Askren def has way more heart than his training partner Woodley. Dude can take a beating and keep on rolling and attacking. Curious to see him against other fighters who aren't such a brutal matchup. Robbie is just a straight up zombie mauler. More and more I think Robbie would have got his belt back if he had gotten his rematch vs Woodley after that R1 KO loss.

JBJ vs Santos, which is the fight Dana wants to make, seems so meh and a boring walk in the park for Jon. I'd rather have a more fun matchup like a 205 Rockhold/Yoel or have him fight at heavyweight.

Short of the guys who aren't ready for his level atm - Reyes/Walker etc...the competitive matchups in 205 right now for Jones are slim.

I think Herb after seeing the arm fall to the mat had already decided in his head that he was out. Reminded me of the darce choke that got called to quick back 3 or 4 fights ago. Bad/awkward positioning for clear view, mixed signals when ref is asking for response but fighter is just trying to conserve energy, ref misses signal from fighter that hes good, and then immediate complaint from fight who clearly was not out.

Sucks cuz that had the makings of fight of the night if he let it keep going.

Sucks for me because I had Robbie to win inside the distance at +1000 so I may be a little biased. He could have stopped it when Robbie was beating the breaks off of askren and it would have been a much much better stoppage.

There was 2 minutes to go in that round and Robbie was not defending. I think the outcome is the same if it keeps going.

Ben wasn't turtling up during the beat down. Robbie had control on one of his hands/arms after the slam which is why Askren initially got lit the **** up so bad.

Robbie likely gets choked, or is stuck under Askren for rest of round and it appears from watching the gifs on twitter that its possible he briefly went out. The way his arm falls to the floor is odd for someone just trying to relax and remain calm. But it def was an early stoppage. Just a perfect storm of bad position + weird signals from fighter.

Given that position if Robbie is out then it would look very similar. Refs really need to come up with a more concrete universal means of a fighter alerting he's not out -- otherwise they need to just let the dude go 100% dead before breaking it up.

Lol, or he pops his sweaty bald head out and takes Askren's back?

He never went out, that's not how it works. Herb immediatly admitted it was a bad call.

Which is funny because after the Cruz fight a lot of people were talking about how Cody has insanely high fight IQ. How although he was an incredibly stupid person but somehow in the cage he was brilliant. Think that was just a case of Team Alpha male having insane amounts of info on how to fight Cruz vs Cruz having zero info on Cody because at the time Cody hadn't gone passed the first round.

Almost bet on Usman even though I don't bet on MMA anymore. Mostly because Tyrion looked soft, which I took to mean he was going easy on the PEDs. Glad Woodley lost though, can't stand him.

Thought the Askren/Lawler stoppage was reasonable in the moment but bad in retrospect. The way his arm falls makes him look unconscious, but Herb should have done a better job confirming he was out. Was too quick to break it up.

I remember Schaub 3 years ago saying he was worried the Ufc would fail with garbrandt Like that by allowing him to rise too fast.

I thought so, as well, until I saw this gif:

https://thumbs.gfycat.com/FatDisfigu...restricted.gif

Herb does his standard grab and let go of the arm to see if they're out, and Lawler literally gives him a thumbs up...then Herb calls it.

In my estimation Robbie was much closer to a realistic ending of the fight than Ben was and he did much more damage. This wasn’t even a situation were even if Robbie gets out he’s hurt bad, gassed out, or in a bad position.

For instance TJ stoppage was a bit soon but TJ was in really bad shape and taking big shots. His chances of winning the fight were slim at that point and his risk of taking huge damage was high.

Idk how to even compare it to the Robbie fight because idk what herb even saw besides Robbie dropping his hand from an awkward position. There’s a reason you never see anyone getting bulldog choke submissions in the ufc.
