Okay...Super Duper burger at top of list. Too bad I hurt my knee playing Panhandle Basketball on Sat so I can't trek that far until healed.

Speaking of...I give panhandle basketball a solid 4 stars. If you want better competition, go to the Marina. The panhandle has cooler people though...

The Fillmore Jazz fest was super fun on SAT...

This Sunday is the Rock 'n Swap at the light rail studio in Bayview. If you listen to vinyl records you pretty much have to go. It is part of the save KUSF movement...

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go

I just got a job offer at a tech company with offices in SOMA, so am going to be moving to SF soon. The ideal situation for me would be to get a sublet for a month or two while I start working and getting a feel for the city, before settling on something more permanent. The problem is that people on craigslist have seemed reluctant to rent to somebody that they can't meet in person. If anybody here knows of somebody looking for an August sublet or something similar, please put us in touch. Any general advice for moving to the city would be great, too (I saw the discussion on the previous page regarding different neighborhoods in the city - very useful, thanks!).

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go

Do you have Skype video chat capability? I can't imagine renting to someone I can't see. A good shared room is very competitive...and you have to interview to prove your coolness/chillness.

You also have the option of renting a room by the week at a hotel in Nob Hill. If you go this route...do not skimp on price and try to save a buck. Also don't rent a room in "Lower Nob Hill", this is code for Tenderloin and the hotel will suck. I did this and tried to save a buck once...I got an all over rash from the bed sheets.

So to summarize weekly hotels: Nob Hill, the farther north the better, and shell out the money for a nicer place. The good thing about this is that you need no advance notice...and can check these places out yourself before deciding to stay there.

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go

I'm sure there are other extended stay hotels in the city...I just know there are a cluster of them in the Nob hill area. If you find any online and are curious about the area...post them here and I'll try to be helpful.

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go

Mikey (and others),

http://www.3-sumeats.com/

They are at a lot of Off the Grids (today they were at UN Plaza) and sometimes at Lunch Box (246 Ritch Street in SOMA) with Rib Whip.

Brown Sugar, Rosemary & Black Pepper Crusted Bacon BLT
Cheddar, Tomato Jam, Iceberg Lettuce $8

Had that today, was ****ing great. Their deviled eggs and kitchen sink cookie are also awesome.

Went to http://homeroom510.com/ in Oakland for Mac & Cheese.

I had
Classic 7.5O
Homeroom’s super creamy, extra cheesy remake of the all-cheddar mac you ate as a kid.
with bacon and breadcrumbs.

Others had

Gilroy Mac 8.5O
Creamy gouda, sharp pecorino and just the right amount of roasted garlic.

Vermont White Cheddar 7.5O
Our creamiest mac made with velvety white cheddar from Grafton Village cheese in Vermont

The Gilroy Mac was by far the best. Overall, most of these were not as rich or well-seasoned as I'd expect. Definitely very tasty, but leaning towards the bland/mild side.

Creamy peanut butter pie with graham cracker crust 4 was ****ing incredible, one of the best desserts I've tasted in a while.

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go

I actually ate at Super Duper Burger today...did not like...

The bun was thick/stale and they put almost no special sauce on it. The meat itself was spectacular. They also messed up my order. The thing that tilted me the most is that they FPS'd the pickles. You over think a pickle and you get burned...and pickles are my favorite topping. Also, my meal was 12 dollars which is too expensive for this kind of fare.

If in area, I would choose Del Taco which is right next door any day. I recommend any french fry based dish there...

Deviled eggs are dope. Also...that mac and cheese place sounds amazing, but I'm in Oakland like twice a year...I don't have any friends over there.

Have you guys heard anything beyond yelp about Smokin' Warehouse?

We tried to swing by there one afternoon a couple of weekends ago, but I ****ed up the hours (thought they closed at 5 instead of 3).

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go

i've been killing the online dating game lately in terms of getting digits...haha but I'm pretty busto right now and I live with my parents during the summer so logistics are difficult right now.

anyways can you guys think of place in SF or down the peninsula that is free or cheap (<$10) and somewhat original that would be a good place to take an online date I've never met...haha thanks!

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go

Never heard of the smokin' warehouse...but I will offer one of my bbq favorites: Da' Pitt, formerly Lucy's, formerly many other names. It is super cheap and very generous portions. The mac and cheese and potato salad are the best sides...the beans and corn are out of the can. Chicken is always good, brisket can be great but is riskier depending on the cut you get. Ribs are great.

For online dates...happy hour?. I've never online dated...but I can imagine wanting to involve alcohol when going on a series of blind dates ostensibly to hook up.

Speaking of Mac & Cheese, Piqueo's, a Peruvian restaurant in Bernal Heights has some delicious Mac & Cheese with bacon. They just did a Groupon as well.

Masked Man:

My wife and I live outside the delivery radius, so we went on a weekend for lunch a few months ago. Good daytime use for a gay bar (or any bar) I suppose. The smoke was good...er, the meat was good...er, the sauce was, er...seriously, if you like you BBQ on the vinegary side, this is the place for you.

I'm a big fan of buta no kakuni, so I was hoping that the kurobuta pork belly would be smoked, but it was actually deep fried. Still good, but not as good as I'd hoped.

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go

So I've been checking this out for awhile for an upcoming trip in August. It seems to mainly be about food which is great and all, but I'm more interested in things to do while me and my gf are down there. We are doing the obvious tourist things such as alcatraz, napa tour, check out golden gate, union square, fisherman's wharf, the roaming food trucks (off the grid), etc.

I was hoping to get a tour of the Anchor Steam brewery but they are booked until November unfortunately. In terms of city tours, which ones would you guys recommend? Also, what other must see things should we check out?

California Academy of Arts and Sciences
http://www.calacademy.org/

It is like 25 bucks...but you can spend a good half day in there...pretty fun (i lke the rainforest). This is also in the park which you can wander all day if it is nice, and the DeYoung (art mus.) is across the street. The Golden Gate park is huge and an attraction in itself.

Top of The Mark
http://www.yelp.com/biz/top-of-the-mark-san-francisco

A hotel in DT San Fran that has a sweet 360 bar at the top floor...can check out the whole place and enjoy an 18 dollar Manhattan.

If I think of more I'll post later. Also, I would suggest staying in Union Square as opposed to Fisherman's Wharf. It is just a much better/central location.

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go

Riding a bike across the golden gate bridge is pretty awesome too. There is a bike lane completely separate from the road it is not scary at all. You rent your bikes in Fisherman's Wharf, and then your journey is around 5-6 miles one way to Sausalito, then you spend time there and take the Ferry back. Pretty good day...

I would try to stay extremely **** faced for the entire time. So, Napa+limo is in. Golden Gate and Alcatraz are out. I think you can take a ferry from Fishermans' wharf to Sausolito. If you brink lots of booze it will be a fun day trip. Union Square is OK but your are better off hanging out near Columbus and Broadway. More bars.

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go

I need help. I need a suit by Friday! I have two summer weddings to attend...the first one on SAT.

I would like to spend between 200-400 for the suit. I would like it to be fashionable. I work close to union square so I got that going for me...

Any recommendations?

Men's Warehouse is also supposed to be decent for cheap suits.
