Thanks...Burger Bar over Pearls?

We're going this weekend staying at Kensington Palace @ Union sq. Anything exciting going on over weekend or next week? So far we have the Mr. Toad's tour planned and are planning on going to the farmers market. Any park/outdoor reccomendations to do one of the days?

as far as I know, Santa Clara is boring as **** for a person in your age range. I would consider finding a place near Castro Street in Mountain View or maybe even Murphy Ave in Sunnyvale. You can use Caltrain to commute to SCU. Lower your expectations. Craigslist is the place to go apartment hunting.

u,

I dunno man, you can check this thread for extensive burger discussions. Lots of great places. If you go to Vegas frequently, don't bother w/ Burger Bar since there's one in Vegas. But if you never go to Vegas, it's worth checking out for novelty value.

Anyone else that agree with this? I feel I need more input before I'd consider something like this.

It's accurate. You might try downtown San Jose which sucks less, or maybe around Santana Row, which I think also sucks and is expensive but some people like a lot. I'd take the dorms over living in Santa Clara. If you're willing to take Caltrain then living in downtown Palo Alto is a significant upgrade over Mountain View and not really much farther.

No idea what things are like at SCU, but fun stuff tends to happen in college dorms.

www.housingmaps.com is a better view into Craigslist data.

still recommnent the place as its a fun spot to go, (dive bar), and the food is good with huge portions and cheap prices for what you get.
lol, dropped by there when I was back in SF for spring break. Really quiet place, but had a hot bartender working the night shift so it was cool.

Not a lot of big pho recommendations ITT. I usually hit up Kevin's Noodle House on Irving and 18th(?). Clean and quick service.

Turtle Tower seems to be popular but I'm not a huge fan. I do like Phở Tân Hòa in the 'loin on Jones a block down the street from Dottie's & Shalimar.

Me and a friend (both 23 year olds) arrive in SF august 23 late at night. We're going on a road trip and start off with 3 days in SF. We plan on not having a car while we are staying there.

Where should we live and what would you recommend doing?

Hey guys,
Not specifically a San Francisco question, but me and a friend are driving in june from SF to las vegas.
We're from europe so we obv have no idea what we're doing.. we're thinking of taking this route

We only have two days to get there so we prolly have no time to go sightseeing.

Is this a good way to drive to las vegas? or do you recommend another route?

Thanks!

I've done the drive from Bay Area to Las Vegas. The way I took was recommended to me by Google Maps and it's different than from what you have there. I took I-5 South -> CA-58 East through Bakersfield -> I-15. I think your route isn't ideal because it goes on smaller highways.

yeah i thaught this route would be more fun, cause then we could see more stuff on the way to LV.. through death valley etc.. however i dont know if it is doable in 2 days.. ?

We just had another storm blow through here yesterday, and I would keep an eye on the road conditions for CA 120, especially in June. It's pretty likely that road will still be closed with all the snow we've had this year.

Here's a link.

Thanks! that's one thing we'll prolly need to keep an eye on.

Does someone have a route in mind for me? i'm not really familiar with the roads in the US.

driving from SF to vegas is ****ing awful.
i did it 2 years ago and ended up paying a buddy to drive my car back so i could fly.

i guess it could be tolerable if you smoke a **** ton of weed, but if you're not high you are seriously going to want to kill yourself about 6hrs in.

FWIW, that drive would be visually stunning if 120 is open. Driving down I-5 to 58 to 15 sucks.

What you could do if 120 is still closed is take US50 to Lake Tahoe, then go over either CA89 or Kingsbury Grade which will put you down in the Carson Valley where you will eventually hook up with US395. You'll get the same flavor of the Eastern Sierras without Yosemite (which is unfortunate, but if the road is closed, the road is closed). This trip will take you every bit of 12 hours, though.

That looks really nice.. We're driving on the 22nd of june, so we'll keep an eye on the 120.. We'll do the trip in two days so 12 hrs driving should be no problem (I guess).
Plan on driving to Lone Pine the first day, and drive through death valley the 2nd..

I see that SF-Lone Pine, through Lake Tahoe is about 8,5 hrs so we will see if we can make it in 1 day..

That's a good route. I actually get off I-5 at the Route 46 Wasco/Lost Hills exit and cut over to 99 South and get on 58 from there. I find its the fastest. Takes about 9 hours in total from Oakland. I've made the drive about a dozen times.

Though Google Maps does say your route is a couple minutes faster, and they tend to be scary-correct. Either way, good route.

Just got to SF for the first time. Looks like it is going to be a rainy weekend. So if anyone has some suggestions on things to do I am all ears. We are staying at Hotel Vitale (Near the Ferry Building). I imagine most of the time will be taken up by eating and drinking. Really hard to argue with that I guess.

TJ,

Vitale is a great hotel. Tomorrow morning go across the street to the farmer's market at the Ferry Building and eat lots of good stuff there.

Hi Everyone,

I'll be staying at the San Francisco Suites for a few days in August with my GF. I'm looking for 8 meal recommendations (2 of which will be nice dinners), preferably most of which will be walking distance from Nob Hill. I'm thinking a lunch at The Slanted Door will probably be one of the meals.

Also we'll be heading to Napa area for a couple days. Will probably check out the CIA restaurant and Cindy's/Mustard's. Not gonna do the French Laundry. Any other recommendations within 30 minutes of St. Helena? Also if what winery would be best for a couple of 25 year olds that know jack about wine?
